Already in action in Europe, Commencal is bringing their A La Carte program to the States allowing consumers to customize their build with parts from FOX, Shimano, e*thirteen, and Renthal (with more brands to come). Building custom bikes is cool and all, but what we found most intriguing about this program is the ability to build and purchase incomplete build kits. Say you already have your favorite wheelset and had originally planned to resell whatever wheelset came on your new rig and use the ones you already own. That hassle is gone with the A La Carte program - just order your bike with no wheels. Pretty frikin' clever.
