Yes it's me !
in my opinion Gwin will stop the WC .. and at the time, the norco team manager (who is the current team manager of intense) had already offered Benoit to come with them ..
sharpy212 wrote:
But did Gwin not say that they would be doing a lot of testing soon?

Talked to Gwin the other day, it seems like he's rearing to get back to racing World Cups. I would be shocked if he retired before at least 1-2 more years on the circuit.

I'd be surprised to see Maes off GT considering their history. What makes you say that?

If Kona is done it'll be interesting to see where Fearon and Miller end up. Maybe Miller to Pivot?

Anyone know if cami’s contract is up? Emilie mentioned possibly working for pivot next year. Pivot needs a woman now, cami was in the pivot pits a lot this year. Would be awesome to have her on that pivot team next year.

That would be a pretty cool move! Forbidden would be another one, seems like they could use a top tier lady on the team, but I'm not sure they'd have the budget right now. I was saying Pivot because of Emilie Siegenthaler's retirement, and the fact that a few of their team members race both EWS and DH.

I'm usually well outside the loop on any of this stuff. That said, being I'm usually on the finance side of things (in other industries) I can't imagine how difficult it'd be to "sell" a WC team on an ROI basis unless you can produce results. (and even then, questionable...)

This is why I would not be shocked to see Kona to be done. They haven't produced results (at all). Fearon is good, but the team does nothing when you compare what else that money could be spent on.

Although I think you're mostly correct, Connor is also great on the content producing/video side of things, and having him at the races "legitimizes" somewhat the content he is part of.

With that said, you're still right and I do often wonder how much of a rational choice is in the funding of a smaller team. I would suspect the answer there is "not much", and it's mostly done out of love for seeing rad dudes go fast on bikes.

i think camille was on a 2 year contract with dorval. it's possible to see her at Pivot next year, or to see Emilie at Dorval, as a team manager .. well the 2 will work together !

Can you expand on that a little bit? Is it just the WC team that they're cutting, or will they be dropping EWS as well? Assuming it was only the WC team then Fearon could segway into full time EWS racing, Miller already races EWS almost exclusively, with the occasional Canada Cup race.

Cami and Emilie are a couple, which is why she was always in their pits, but it could sway her decision if she leaves Dorval.

I really don't see Maes leaving GT and I don't see why he would pick Orbea.

If Maes is moving, and that's a big if, it's more likely for him to join Atherton Racing than a team with a manager he barely knows and riders he doesn't usually hang out with.

Yeah, it’s already mentioned a few times further up on this thread - hopefully it’s true would be a good move for sure.

I would bet on Gee unless he gets hurt or can’t get enough points.

Rachel I want to say yes but kind of think we may have seen the last of her outside maybe one last race at somewhere like Ft William.

Regarding the worth of EWS and/or DH teams... I'm a trail rider through and through, I do some enduro style races sometimes, but nevertheless, even though it's my area of interest, this year I have followed zero EWS stuff and have been kind of up to speed with DH.

If anything, I'd say the DH team is worth more (has a better reach) than the EWS team.

I’ve not followed much EWS this year compared to previous years - I’ve put it down to the change in coverage now GMBN are covering it. I just don’t get in with the format change.

I think the issue is the media exclusiveness/format too. Hockey went thru a real dark period that had other many factors but was greatly effected by nbc having exclusive rights to league coverage. ESPN effectively dropping hockey not only from programming schedule but it’s highly relevant sports talk programs led to a massive overnight drop in the casual fan base. Sport became far more niche and it is still fighting to shake that feeling.

Discovery plus was a poor decision. The new format doesn’t work (not gonna watch them race 45 seconds of track on a Friday and wait for the results of what I watched on sunday) and double headers certainly don’t feel in the spirit of ews. If they races all different tracks or did first race blind I’d be for it but otherwise to me it serves only to take away from excitement of a single race in a venue way across the world. Enduro is already about being the best average on the day. It should lean towards blind racing and track walk/practice should mostly be for letting riders turn it up a bit safely. Let’s not turn enduro into the best average on a week on the same course. Lastly the mtb industry already knows how to serve the goods to those who care about it. I just fail to see what new fanbase discovery is helping to bring in or how they have improved existing coverage for the current fans.

Enduro is my fav form of racing and the field is better than ever in talent and personality. I’d love to see red bull pick up the sport. Not necessarily to broadcast live, but they know how to make a race recap, cover racers, and market gravity bike racing. The best ews content ever put out was Red Bull’s series with keane. I just don’t think live coverage in enduro makes much sense other than how crank works does it. it’s tongue in cheek in terms of actual quality of bike racing but it can be fun to watch riders reactions/interviews and how people finish live.

If people really want to discuss the value of a team & coverage of the sport, I'll make a new thread, as I find this incredibly interesting. I don't want to clog this up with such back and forth. A lot of what you are saying I totally agree with, but as everyone knows, my reply will be too long to throw up here Wink

I hope not, I'd like to see him win again. Orbea has heen the EWS team where lead riders go and ruin their carreer. Lapeyrie, now Otton, good luck ! Also considering Maes like to go DH every now and then, riding with Orbea would mean that wouldn't be possible

This is why I'd like to know if they're dropping their EWS team as well. I already know that Kona has discontinued the Operator for 2022, but if they keep the EWS team, then Fearon and Miller may not be going anywhere. They both already race EWS anyway.

My understanding is Kona went for equal pay for male and female athletes, rather than lifting Miranda’s they dropped connors and both riders are now leaving and the Kona factory team DH and enduro is going away

That's wild, thanks for the explanation!

So maybe Miller to Pivot, and Fearon to Giant? What other teams have openings?
