Thanks for asking!

It would be hard to say much positive about a single part on this bike (maybe a Chromag pedal fan gives the Scarabs a pass); the shock is laughable, and you can tick parts off finding every one less good than what's offered today. But as a whole it worked surprisingly well and I loved it. If I have an insight here (and I'm not sure I do), it's that bikes I've ridden since then have phenomenal sell sheets and each individual component has a great marketing story, a history of winning, a legion of online fans, etc -- but put them all together and you get a ride that is lackluster. I don't have the resources to do some study on myself and my equipment to tease apart why.

Sx trail and process 167 were definitely 2 of the coolest bikes ever made.

Setting aside concerns about the Genie shock being proprietary, it does seem like an interesting option.

Being able to tune the progression of the first 70% and last 30% separately seems like it presents an interesting tuning option. Usually adding tokens or adjusting a third chamber on shocks also changes how soon in the stroke the progression begins.

Got to see the new Schwalbe Assegai/Kryptotal type tyre at Eurobike today on a random bike that it probably should not have been on. Knobs look bigger generally to me, though I could not check side by side with the Maxxis/Conti equivalent.

Looks like it should be a good addition to the Schwalbe range.

cannot wait for this Albert Gravity to be released

I thought it would feel odd or I would be aware of the ABS doing something or the brakes would not feel powerful, it was totally invisible though and just felt like you had infinite traction.

Was this on a dirt surface, or pavement? I would imagine it feels a bit funny, maybe a bit 'weaker' on loose surfaces like mud and gravel.

So they had a gravel trap on the test track for this very reason, I was able to test on paved road and gravel, worked equally well in both situations.

I had to do a few runs on the gravel as I didn't trust the ABS, once I had the confidence to brake really hard it was faultless.

Obviously flat ground is not representative of real world trail use, so would be keen to use it in anger on some proper trails.

New Mara Pro with "normal" self equalizing negative spring was quietly released today.

https://hayesbicycle.com/products/mara-pro-piggyback

I guess you wouldn't make too much noise about it, feels a bit like announcing you upgraded your dial up internet to fibre in 2024. Did they have a reason for the old air can design persisting so long?

The old Mara Pro had superior damping to most off the shelf shocks and are serviceable at home.

The new air can fixes it's only real drawback of the fixed negative spring.

Just grabbed a Mara Pro and a Mezzer in the recent sale... completely woke up and revitalized my Knolly. I was looking for the deal, knowing full well updated models where coming, no regrets. Only hang up with the Mara is I feel like I am dialing the rebound almost all the way up and maybe running out of damping there. Mezzer is as good as everyone says, Dorado air spring is amazing.

Looks like DVO has a new Onyx dual crown incoming. I’m assuming 38mm stanchions, but skeptical those crowns will be production? Unless it’s an e-bike/moto specific crown. Certainly looks interesting especially with the conversations about Loic running a split crown.

Hard to tell but it looks like the dropouts are inboard a touch more on the lowers. Maybe it has a wider stance and more clearance for wider emtb  downtubes

Anyone have an idea when the Transfer Neo or AXS Reverb v2 droppers are releasing?  Re: the latter, I know we saw the patent... does anyone know what the time between the v1 being patented and released was?

Apparently the release date for Neo is July 30th, 2024 based on a website that didn't hide their inventory. Not too far now.

Some folks on MTBR are talking about the Ibis Ripmo V3 dropping on 7/16. Anyone know if this is true? I hope its able to be setup as a solid enduro basher and not made into something too light. Who knows!

Apparently Ripmo and Ripley will be released together.
Ripley is said to have a bump in travel. Not sure which direction Ripmo is going to go. Will be awesome to see how it compares to Stumpjumper 15 and hoping for aesthetics like the HD6

I take it the disadvantage of abs is you can no longer do nose manuals and thus no longer do nose turns.

Any chance they share a front triangle?

Not sure, it would make sense to cut down on costs. Everyone has been very tight lipped and no spy shots whatsoever. I guess you just have to hope one of your friends is a dealer if you want any info, or wait till mid July

If you are locking up your front wheel when doing those...You are doing it wrong.

But it’s a fair point, what about skidding the rear wheel around a turn? Is that possible with ABS?

Yes it only affects the front wheel, the rear is just for measuring.
at least with the bosch system

I doubt it given the difference in geo and I would imagine Ibis purpose built them for their intended use.

Another shot of the new Schwalbe Albert Gravity. Pretty similar to a Magic Mary. This one is a 27.5 X 2.6. Les Gets, today.

I noticed that too. I think it's DVO suspension with WP's settings though, like the GasGas eebs.
