I think it's just the skinny tubes of the frame that makes it look bigger than 35mm. But I could be wrong.

The amount of whinging from you lot on a forum specifically about tech rumours and innovation is astounding to me.

Primoz, man, like I said, theres tonnes of brand new XX1 out in the world, go buy it so you no longer have to worry.  I can only assume you have tried AXS on your mtb, strangely everyone Ive spoken to that owns it, absolutely loves it.  Ive seen many online complaints, but I dont put too much stock into that, cause often its people weirdly expressing opinions about something they know very little about

those of you who are getting annoyed with the hype of new SRAM kit, may I suggest unfollowing any of it on social media, and maybe stop visiting a webpage dedicated to new tech and innovations.  Whether youre into SRAM or not, we can all agree, its prolly one of the biggest new releases in quite some time right?

Not that anyone cares... I have gx axs and I'm on my 3rd derailleur (first two were warrantied for clutch failures). I originally had it on my enduro bike because that's the bike I put all the fancy stuff on... but I also travel with it in a bike bag often and liked the ability to remove it from the frame easily and not having to wrap it in a pool noodle to protect the rear triangle.

I digress... I have since removed it from my enduro bike and moved it over to my ebike and if given the choice, I would not buy AXS for my bikes going forward.  IME, the clutch is not as strong on the gx axs derailleurs as it is on mechanical.  I also find that I can shift faster with mechanical shifting in general and when there is a problem with shifting or indexing, it's easier for me to deal with on the trail using a barrel adjuster.  I do prefer the ergonomics of the axs shifter, and it doesn't bother me as much when it's on my emtb because I'm already managing a battery over there, and my ebike (ep8) already sounds like a clattering hunk of trash when hammering technical terrain.

Long story short... not everyone prefers axs.... especially in it's current configuration.

One last rant/conversation regarding this.  I do hope that the new axs stuff fixes what I believe is my biggest annoyance with sram drivetrains which is wandering b-tension and excessive non-tensioned (bottom) chain slap on low pivot frames.  I believe that these are related and far worse on some frames then the others.  I am hopeful that the new direct mount attachment method will remedy this.

The thing is current generation XX1 axs derailleur is twice the price of the cable actuated one and do we need to pay twice the money (probably the new one will be more expensive than twice) for a premium product because they stopped producing the cable version? If they do then they have to make the GX more premium because the quality difference between gx and xo/xx1 is quite obvious. The sport is very expensive as it is and i don't think we need to make it more expensive by reducing product options.

He confirmed the production Intense DH bike will be aluminum.  Potentially more aluminum Intense frames in the future?

my guess is that its just too difficult to justify the costs of carbon tooling for a DH bike. even trek and spesh have gone back to AL for the latest iterations of the session and demo.

I have no doubt the price will be $$$, but I'm skeptical of this. Maybe something was lost in translation going from aussie bucks to freedom dollars? XX1 chains are ~$90 bucks. Current flattop RED chains are $75 at msrp. It would be pretty egregious to have a literal 160% price increase.

Also—XX SL AXS? Are there going to be different SL and regular tiers of XX?

I cant for the life of me think why GX isnt acceptable, other than youd like something more blingy.

I'm willing to put a 6 pack on the fact, that in a blind test, you couldnt tell the difference between a GX rear mech, and an either higher priced equivalent.  Ill supply the bike, and beer, and put you to the test on it if youre willing.

As noted in earlier posts, you can get current gen, cable XX1 groupsets on TBS bike parts for mere shillings.  If you need it, go get it, otherwise, I'm unsure about complaining about the high cost of mountain cycling, and the need to have the highest end groupsets.  Im completely baffled by that.

Keep in mind, you dont HAVE to do anything, it doesnt HAVE to cost twice the price, if you CHOOSE to buy AXS, then it costs more

I think the plan is to have:

XX, Deluxe XX, Super Deluxe XX, Super Deluxe XX Select, Super Deluxe XX Select Plus, Super Deluxe XX Ultimate, Super Deluxe XX Ultimate SL, Super Deluxe XX Ultimate SL AXS, and, of course, Super Deluxe XX Ultimate SL AXS Flight Control™ B52 C130 with Electrolytes.

Thanks for the keyword! Found a shop listing for the group.

https://www.tradeinn.com/bikeinn/en/sram-xxsl-t-type-eagle-transmission…

$2425 for a power meter kit, can't verify it much though.

EDIT

This site has a BB with new part numbers. Looking at the list XX and XXSL are different products both using the "T-Type" Chain.

https://www.sykkel.no/komponenter/sram-kranlager-spacer-kit-dub-mtb-wid…

2ND EDIT

XXSL T-Type Chain

https://www.tradeinn.com/bikeinn/en/sram-xxsl-t-type-eagle-hollowpin-t-…

$132.99 (maybe)

I also found some T-Type Apex stuff so it looks like there will be a pretty big overhaul of the product line.

Good points. On both my GX AXS derailleurs I've swapped the skinny red o-ring between the main derailleur body and the b-tension stop plate for one slightly thicker. It still bolts together the same, but it acts a little like a second clutch in the derailleur and doesn't let the main body flop around as much.

Sounds about right. The XO AXS group will be $1599. XXSL without pwm could be $1999. Given that Quarq integrated chain rings go for $400, then that $2425 price seems about right.

Also couldn't you just use the SRAM red chain instead?

No, red chain has different size rollers, or some weird thing. fractions of millimeters.

Its getting super "Apple-ish" with this new sram products. Could be good for everyone if they do the same, introduce this new "XX SL" (i believe SL goes for super light), and leave XX1 axs, X01 axs, GX axs, XX1, X01, GX, etc.. so everyone still buy em. Not stopping production, so now we have a choice and this new group set just opens another category.

When AXS first launched 4 or 5 years ago or whenever it was, pricing was 1900usd for X01 in a groupset that included crankset/chain/cassette/derailleur/controller/charger. I wonder what the new $1599 group consists of? That's twice the price of the current "upgrade kit" which is just derailleur/controller/charger, which, ooof that'd be rough if that's what we're talking about. On the other hand, if it's $1599 for, say, derailleur/controller/chain/cassette—well, I ain't spending that, but it's not as bad as I could have imagined.

You know what, I'm actually a lot more curious about the new Codes than I am the drivetrain stuff. I've seen the levers, but not the calipers. Anyone got any intel on the brake situation? Prices/performance claims/what do the calipers look like, etc.?

Afaik that prices includes everything except a bottom bracket so it would be comparable to the $1900 launch price of XO1 in 2019. Given the inflation, not bad. Ideally it should be a lot less because they should be reusing their knowledge of the electronics from previous generation.

In my opinion they may have misjudged the current economic climate, but I'm pretty sure they'll still sell a bunch of these to all the fanboyz out there. I was hoping to see more trickle down AXS technology, not more higher end inflation personally. I guess they ARE still refining the concept, but I'll be trying out the new CUES instead...
