the only thing is that until the status of the world cup is known, it's hard to imagine any teams making significant moves. it's also still pretty early in the season for actual rumors to hit.
Have a listen to the Downtime Podcast, the latest episode is with Martin Whiteley. He explains that Eurosport will be showing the races (in Europe) and that there will be a free to air option or a pay per view option if you want to watch without adverts. He didn't mention anything about the States but I imagine it will be the same principle.
He also explains that Junior DH and XC Under 23 will also be recorded. There is more content so its worth having a listen.
I'm happy to pay a reasonable amount to watch an ad-free stream if it's anything close to the quality of what we're used to currently. I pay around 120 euros a year for MXGP-TV currently (albeit for a lot more races/content than DH offers) but I don't mind when the quality and content is top notch.
My local Eurosport is currently showing the ews recaps, they’ve managed to get a commentator on the clips that usually does road racing. Cringeworthy is an understatement: “super extreme cycling” , “cycling acrobatics”, “stunts and death defying actions”
If that’s anything to go by I’m sad about the forecast for wc Dh.
That whole podcast with Martin is amazing. Super impressive person. He definitely made me feel more hopeful about the future of MTB with eso/disco than I have up to this point.

thanks for this, that was nice to hear...
although his endorsement of the ESO folks shares the same breath as "Chris Ball shouldn't've done the PB AMA with nothing to say," and that it was a given that they're all good businesspeople and therefore they'll not muck it up.
His scheduling predictions were obviously spot on, and man, yeah, I feel better about it all after hearing this. Bring on the sponsors, let's get these riders PAID!!!

Okay edit: Whiteleys assertions that “they’re not gonna have EWS and DH at the same weekend” was incorrect. He has a stake in this doing well…maybe there’s a little “it’s difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends on him not understanding it” in here?
I dunno. Unconcerned with the future of EWS, only DH lol
Looks like Innes may have snapped his wrist in practice :(

"innesgrahambike Thanks for all the concerned messages re the wonky wrist story yesterday. I rode the whole day of practice with it and it felt alright so gonna give pro stage a bash n see how we go.
Definitely feels like I’ve gone 1 on 1 with @thenotoriousmma this morning though🤣."
I mentioned it on Le pinke Cycle, but what's up with Seth Sherlock? Stoked to see him crushing EWS under 21, but he was pretty front and center for Intense the last few seasons in DH and doing ok until mid season and then he just disappeared from the WC scene and appeared in EWS with zero note form the team and little fan fair. Usually a team will use a transition like that for social media at least, but Gw'Intense seem to be quiet on all fronts about it and while there's a few posts, there's way more DH coverage for a bike you can't and maybe wont be able to buy than the person who's podiumed every race this season on the bike they just released.

I mean what’s the point of doing an AMA when pretty much every answer was “TBC but trust me”

Crushing? Every time Luke Meier Smith feels like turning up to his side hobby of enduro he wins.
Could needles be in line as the next dh commentator?
Could needles be in line as the next dh commentator?
Him and Tracy Hannah would make a real strong commentary team on next year's broadcast
On Needles' podcast from Les Gets Wyn is fueling the rumor mill by stating that there'll be new teams from brands already in the game getting involved in a bigger way and that there'll be former racers coming back to the circuit for jobs on the sideline.
As much as people seem to already complain about less riders on the start list, more expensive costs and all. I kinda wonder if it actually won't help the sport become more professional? I've been following downhill racing for a while now and the days where anybody could just show up to a wc and get a top 10 are getting smaller and smaller. Within the last ten years we've seen the sport evolve to a point that if you're not a top shape athlete putting in the hours, you ain't gonna cut it. I find it similar to F1, there isn't too many spots available and it's seen as something really prestigious that people aspire to. I can see the sport evolving to something more professional and structured, at the expense of bigger budgets needed (at the same time, when you see certain teams/motorhome setups you already understand that it takes a lot of money to go racing). For people complaining that we might not see more grassroots/amateur riders anymore, well that's what regional races are for, if you're good enough, you have a chance of making it to the top league. I remain optimistic about the future of downhill racing!
But there has been privateers that get good results and end up on a team/more supported setup in revent years. Plucky underdogs are loved.
Exactly why Wyn started doing his privateer awards, to help those racing that had the race pace to keep doing the sport in the hope they get picked up.
Plus, to do a WC race, don't they need to earn the points to get onto the race (countries jerseys aside)?

In F1 you can buy your place in a team. That's not based on performance...I don't want to see the number of places in finals reduced. What we have now is very professional, of course there are some guys that are goofing around but I'm very sure that all of them are training very hard.
Why do you want the sport to be more professional? Having a bunch of crazy people slamming beers and holding chainsaws and airhorns WFO inches from the track is badass. If you want professional go to a tennis match.

I don't have anything against this! I was at Mont Sainte-Anne a month ago and it was a crazy ambiance!
What I meant by more professional is more structured, big teams like commencal muc-off and such don't operate on small budgets so for them paying a higher entry fee doesn't necessarily harm them and if it works out like optimists are suggesting for 2023, we could maybe see the return of big money sponsors/brands within the next couple of years? (maybe not like supercross level but still).
