ahhhhhh, so just a crazy coincidence that a Junior rider has the exact same race number as Connor and they both ride a Forbidden. I'll happily retire from sleuthing RAW videos now.

Elijah Barron is the Jr. if you're trying to put a name to that number plate, believe he usually runs a Fox 40 that Dorado is a loaner

At some point this might start having a knock-on effect how the teams view the next season.
this got me thinking on something.... with the factory team costs rumored to be increasing drastically.... what about venue costs? it already costs the venues a not insignificant amount just to submit a WC hosting bid. i would suspect fewer venues would be submitting bids if the costs increase substantially. could this potentially lead to venues getting behind IXS more instead of the WC? it does already seem like some venues host both series. if costs for hosting a WC went up I could see it being easier for venues to walk away from it in favor of IXS
For now the IXS cup is an European affair. We'll see if they'll make it worldwide.
and that's fine. it's not like the WC season isn't mostly EU based anyways. it seems like the series is pretty well established and well run, so it wouldn't be a huge jump for them to increase viewership, especially if RB steps in. i for one would watch it.
I would guess that redbull might wait to see how well or poorly discovery wc coverage is before they setup a competing series. There's lots of reasons to be pessimistic about disco, but who knows, might be decent. Literally all they have to do to have acceptable coverage is copy what rb has been doing the last few years. If disco/eso do ruin it, then rb or someone might step up to make a competing race series. Norba's, way back when, were as big if not bigger/better than world cups. So there is precedence for uci world cups to be eclipsed by another race series.

given the infrastructure and capabilities RB has with their MTB race coverage (and freeride, among other sports), i would be surprised if they just sat back waiting to see what happens with discovery and the WC/UCI. I seem to recall hearing they were a bit caught off guard when they found out the UCI awarded the media contract to discovery. so it wouldn't totally surprise me that, in the event discovery fails miserably and their UCI contract got nixed (however unlikely) that RB just might not be interested in working with the UCI again. plus, its not like they don't have other MTB events in which they are the title sponsor (Rampage, Hardline, Joyride, etc). i could certainly see them wanting to have more stake and control in any race series or events moving forward, rather than being subject to the whims of a sport governing body like the UCI.
Redbull typically does not have non compete clauses in their contracts for presenters preventing them from doing work at non redbull events. Even if rob worked...

Rob is likely just doing the ixs stuff as a side gig but it would be awesome and somewhat plausible for redbull to take on ixs. They cover the feeder series for multiple sports and it’s euro based.
Rob said to me at snowshoe, he will not be involved with the ESO production.
Jon, I agree that things would be better off without uci. I just meant that if eso/disco tanks the world cups then it'd be a lot easier for an alternate series to attract the top racers and get venues, sponsors etc. There'd be a lot more demand for it from racers, sponsors, and fans. If world cups are still good with good coverage then rb would have a harder time establishing a different premier series. Still doable, but it'd be harder.

I think what Warner Disney are cooking up for DH is going to have a massive effect on how teams look next year, so I would say it is just as important to the 2023 season.

i definitely get what you're saying. if UCI does restrict the WC field to 30 riders, they wouldn't have to tank in order to open the door for another series to step up. because you'd suddenly have a lot of riders and teams (not in that 30 rider cut) facing a tough choice - jump to another series or just fold / give up racing.
Wait, she mentions she had a concussion after going through COVID. But also mentions of a concussion a few weeks ago, while you mention 4 months? Were there two concussions at play in quick succession?
Damnit. I want to have hope for the next few years, but I’m afraid it’s going to be a shit show. Losing Warner really is losing the voice of DH. I figured Eliot was taking his place.
With neither the WC or EWS calendar being released yet, are we about to see both series run alongside each other at the same venues? Seems weird there is no schedule from each yet
I might be misremembering but I think in that announcement piece disco put out they talked about having ews, dh and xc in the same venue, same weekend for most rounds. Or maybe it was in chris ball's ask me anything on pb. I hope they don't, there's lots of racers that do both ews and dh. Would be a shame.
FWIW Chris Kilmurray (on the Downtime podcast) seemed to think that there were going to be no changes to venues or format next season (for DH). His rationale was that at this date it's too much, too late.
the eso doc that we took down said schedule would be announced "late july". rumblings out of msa (and i have no idea how accurate these things are) were that schedule was going to be released this past saturday or sunday and that team managers wanted 2023 to remain as-is w/o changes to rider counts, reg fees or even pay per view. these requests are not being guaranteed. the waiting continues i guess

Do you (or anyone with insider knowledge) get the impression that the teams and eso are in negotiation behind the scenes, or at least some back/forth? Or is it more of a case of teams making "requests" and eso giving a token "we'll see what we can do".
smart move!
edit: loris also out with the shoulder… they‘re dropping like flies on that rough track.
Alrighty.... Tahnee Seagrave to step away from DH racing for 2023.
health is priority!
Saw him a lot speaking with the team manager of Nukeproof here in whistler !
(this is just a dumb joke)
