Can we discuss Ric’s overdubs of that Ameury interview in the pre race show?? And the awkward mumbo jumbo he was spewing while he was on air alone waiting for Gwin?

To clarify I don’t think this is his fault at all- he’s taking direction from someone who is absolutely dropping the ball. So glad I didn’t pay $30 canadian to watch this week.

That’s a ton of racers who need to practice and then do a second race run.

call semis a “heat race”.  Get rid of points for qualies.  Give way less points for “heat race” than finals.  And make sure heat races actually have good coverage.  Doesn’t need to be a full broadcast but it should be a lot better than a 15 minute highlight video if you want to tell the story of what happened.

Qualifications: top 30 men and top10 women  advance to finals
LCQ:  top 10 men and top 5 women advance.
During the main show let's show highlights and full runs from the LCQ.
It doesn't matter if all the runs are live if they are recorded..
BTW, could Max improve its interface.. I like that I could select specific runs or change the audio with the RedBull app.. We could at least have bookmarks on the timeline so it's easy to watch a specific run..

They are STILL showing times in green even when the rider is in the red...

Because that has nothing to do with splits that’s their time.  Only the splits are green and red and pretty sure it’s different color green.

Yeah I think that’s just a poor graphic design choice, the light green box on the left is very similar if not the same as the green colour used for splits though.

I’d think a blue would be better if it doesn’t reflect being either up or down on a split.

sundays race was the first I’ve watched since 2022 and I enjoyed it, Miriam and Tahnee weren’t really ideal because neither seemed excited, Gwin was ok and less annoying than CG was. Found it frustrating when Ric would over talk or wrongly correct him (AG was talking about how unsettled Danny would be by signing with Nukeproof and Ric corrected him to GT which of course would have been the next frame sponsor he had) but overall I enjoyed it.

Had to watch a Tiz stream that was pretty good quality, if I thought I’d be able to watch semis I might actually lay to subscribe and watch it by legitimate means, it’s not the same without Warner but it certainly wasn’t without drama or excitement - it’s good to be back watching.

All I need to figure out now will be how to watch the race in Asia.

so dak hasn't seen his run yet. i tried to screen record to send to him, but their app/browser player disables screen recording too. i don't blame them and i'm sure there's some work-around that i'm too lazy to figure out, but i was impressed LOL. i may or may not have just filmed the screen with my phone so he could see his run.

You guys should try to get Dak to talk about how he was the only rider without lockout on the podium. I mean, he won't say too much as it will upset Fox, but he's pretty honest, he may something. He definitely lost a couple places Sunday because his suspension sponsor is behind.

What device were you trying to screen record  on?

MAX app on iPhone and iPad definitely disables screen record.

Yeah screen recording is way harder on phone and tablets.   On computers there are many programs that are pretty much impossible to stop from recording.

Considering WBD are around $40 billion in debt I wouldn't be surprised to see them offloading more throughout the next year or so. Time will tell what that may mean for their coverage of WC racing.

so does this mean that Play sold to WBD, made bank, and now bought it back for less? if so, the hustling is real.

Sounds like we bought it to get this piece stripped what we wanted out of it and sold the rest as scrap.

On the Downtime Leogang Post-race show Neko was saying that elite status for teams next year will be determined by the number of high-ranking riders they have signed which seems like yet another way to favor big-money teams.

Looks like Eurosport users have been had by the big dogs.

I received an email saying that Eurosport Premium will be discontinued on 22 July.
"The good news is that Max is the new streaming platform for Eurosport". However the sport package is extra on top of the base.  I have no use for the base subscription, I want mountain biking.

The TV product is crap and only slowly improving anyway. I hate paying for a shit product. I don't mind supporting our sport and paying, but it is terrible to pay for a crap product.  Especially when all these big dogs are deciding the future of our sport. I want privateers, I want riders, I want the sport to grow and progress, not get F1.  Motorcross and Supercross still struggle to be mainstream in the US, and they are much much wealthier as a sport than mountain biking. If SX can't do it, DH won't. That's the truth.

I think have 400 riders at world cups is bad for the progression of the sport. It means 250 riders or more only get like 5-7 runs in before not qualifying for finals/semis. Essential paying thousands to ride their bike 5 times and not progress much?

Keeping entries closer to 200 rider or whatever and having more prestige attahced to other series that allow you to be picked up by WC teams or access World Cups in a sustainable way makes sense, no?

I don't think the F1 comparison makes sense, making WC DH more manageable by only having 150-200 truly capable riders makes sense versus the current Vital Raw carnage we see from the practice day?

On a side-note, I just relocated to Germany for work and signed up for Eurosport to watch val di sole, not got that email yet, but sounds shitty.

new round of layoffs at warner bros/discovery

https://variety.com/2024/tv/news/warner-bros-discovery-lays-off-1000-em…

A new round of layoffs has hit Warner Bros. Discovery, though the number of employees affected in this wave is fewer in comparison to the sweeping cuts made across the David Zaslav-led company last year.

Sources tell Variety that nearly 1,000 employees will be laid off across a few sectors in a new cost-cutting move at WBD, including finance, business affairs, production and at streamer Max. The insider says the vast majority of the eliminations were in the finance division, with less than 10 Max staffers affected in total.

Not all employees included in the layoffs have been informed of the decisions at the time of publication.

Leave it to the Olympics to make you aappreciate Discovery 😂

Paying premium still had 90 second commercials every 3-4 minutes

Any mountain biker would have caught Puck’s flat well before the commentary mentioned it.

Yup. And they missed PFPs decisive attack, no coverage/discussion of Batten's wheel change and incredible comeback, no updates/discussion on Lecomte's crash, commercials every couple of minutes during the final lap, it was a mess...

If the Olympics can go remote with surfing, why not DH?
