Does Atherton have the budget bandwidth to keep a freshly top 10 rider with years ahead of him? Not that I have any idea, but they're just starting to sell bikes, I question their budget for top riders, which they have been steadily producing and then loosing when it comes contract time. They're almost like the new Yeti, getting top talent started and sending them off to bigger things. Mille went pretty quick and I'm sure Kolb will as well, dudes stoked and doing well.

With Millie, I am not sure whether it was a budget thing behind leaving Atherton - her social media presence only ever seemed to pay a very limited acknowledgement of the team (compared to what you see from the rest of the team riders). Her Welsh presence was clearly more focused around the Seagraves (for obvious reasons at the time) and her riding seemed focused around what they were doing - in some ways giving more media focus to their brands rather than her own. Not sure (nor interested) if her relationship is still on with Kaos but the rare times I look at her IG feed, she is now very much more sponsor savvy and he never seems to appear.
I am also not sure whether she is destined to be more than a solid top 10 rider - obviously it is early in her senior team but she is one among a strong generation. Couple that with a strong group rising into the class over the next couple of years and maybe Atherton were happy to let her go with the intention of picking up new youngsters. Elsewhere in this thread Mikayla Parton has been mentioned for example

I remember team budgets. Man...those were good times.

Whenever it is, there is no way Trek is going to let Jolanda Neff go.

Emily Batty on the other hand, should be worried.

I do think E.B. has done her best to remain an asset to Red Bull (edited to avoid embarassment) , with Youtube, Instagram and Photobombing all of the RedBull broadcasts.

Trek is definitely supporting women riders at many levels other than UCI too, and one of them is going to pop someday.

Trek has people who work there paying attention, and hopefully they have already picked up Gwendalyn Gibson.

dude, where have you been the last couple of years??! :D
as stated above emily betty is riding for canyon since 2021.

LOL. Sorry. complete brain f up.

I was thinking "RedBull" not Trek.

Will edit to save my embarassment
It's cool, love your coffee and donuts!

since the rumor thread is a bit slow with Jesse only trolling us once a week, circling back a bit to UCI stuff and rider reps duties and confidentiality requirements, i was sent this today from someone we all know and love. points 4 and 5 are reasons we're not hearing anything from riders/people involved with the UCI...they're in a confidentiality agreement. makes sense.

it's on the UCI site but just posting images of the doc here.

Once again my lunchtime scroll finds Jesse's posts on instagram and:

Riding a black bike with tape covering the model name / company name.  Any ideas for bikes with names centered on the top tube?

Also taped bars, with bright green logos on the edges.  Tasteful taping, as I can't read enough of the logo to be able to figure it out.  Any sleuths?

I've been wondering on what bars those are for a while (he's been on them for most of the season), and can't figure it out.

There's lots of black enduro type bikes with names on top tube:

Santa Cruz Nomad 6 (don't have a real factory team though)

Forbidden Dreadnought

Norco Range (but they just paused race teams)

Trek Slash

Orbea Rallon

I'm sure I'm missing many.

Pretty sure it's his altitude looking at Mckay Vezina's story.

Is this a new page in the appendix to the UCI's personal enrichment handbook? Sorry, rulebook or whatever.

They are only shooting themselves in the foot while punching themselves in the dick with all this dragging out what is happening with broadcasting plans. XCO races start in May. #ticktock

This only affects Myriam Nicole and Greg Minnaar on the Gravity side of things.

Why is it so tough for people on here to understand that from this point onwards anything (or most things) to do with organization, broadcasting, scheduling and sporting changes are in the hands of ESO/WBdiscovery and NOT the UCI.

UCI will be involved in calendar and rules and regs (luckily).

It would change the strategy for many riders, but the protected riders would still be safe to lay it on the line for those precious quali points.

At the very least, I would like to see the top 20 riders remain protected; the top 30 qualifiers plus the protected riders would get us somewhere around 35-40 riders on race day, and that wouldn't be horrible - of course I'd love to see it stay at 60, but you do start to get into negligible points in both qualis and finals beyond those rankings, and we also see the tracks take a beating with so many laps.

But at risk here is a part of the culture - it's the privateer element at pro races that is so cool that will surely suffer and start to disappear. Being able to send it on qualis for a shot at top 60 is such an awesome aspect of DH that has brought numerous feel-good stories to the sport, from the Denim Destroyer to Wyn's privateers of the week, a number of whom have really blossomed. And this adds tremendously to the enjoyment of the sport.

So, in making what may be a sleeker and "better event" to help grow the sport's audience, we may be taking out a crucial stepping stone for the people this whole thing rides on: up and coming athletes.

- sry for the novel, been on my mind a lot

Martin Whiteley had proposed A and B races as a solution to having a smaller main event. B on Saturday, A on Sunday, and keep riders able bust into the A group,  top 5 B racers race in A the following day.

Not a rumor but felt it needed mentioning.  One of the two owners of Red Bull passed away.
