Question, does anyone know what a tuned mass damper would do for a hardtail? Or a full suspension XC bike? Like does this positively effect a bike more if it has more or less travel?
I don’t think the weight matters on how much suspension you have. The heavier it is, the bigger change you feel.
Say 400g removes 20% of those vibrations, 600g gets to 35% and 800g will cover 50%. You just notice the different more. Hope that helps, I have tried 400g and 800g on my fork.

Re: SC Vala. Thing to keep in mind is a Horst Link specifically calls out the placement of the pivot as forward of and lower than the axle. SC's unit is forward and slightly above the axle, so it has a bit more in common with Rocky's old link circa 2013 (forgot the name, sorry) prior to the Horst patent expiring. That's all a long way of saying technically it isn't a true Horst link, but letting people blab about it as such makes it easier to discuss as a Horst is a known design. Bonus: it also stops the forums/comments from exploding with "IT'S A HORST LINK" if they did decide to call it something else. Bypass the BS and get straight to ride characteristics.
So... the new Altitude is using (Not actually) VPP and the new Vala is using Smooth link

What a world, what a whirled, eh? Though I suppose you could make the argument that Rocky is using a design more similar to what Pole (originally), DMR, and to a degree Digit have done with the concentric BB pivot, at least on their non-electric units. The Powerplay jobber does use a proper Horst however.
those hybrid type e-mtb's make sense, would be good for adventuring on fire roads (ours are rough AF) and generally good for getting older people on bikes. I'm all for it.
Re: Shakeweight on a hardtail, I was thinking about this the other day. My Torrent would be incredible with a bit of sting taken out the back.
Personally I'd love to pay crab pricing rather than the pricing we have now. Which of these athletes would consider trading to me their bike if I offered their race bike's weight in King Crab?

Pot holes are rough, man.
At least where I live, a lot of those 90's MTBs are still kicking around, still being used for what they do best, leisure rides and conmuting. Even if you want a brand new bike, the now named ATB (All Terrain Bike) is rissing in popularity in both sides of the atlantic ocean. Simple machines meant to go places... As much as I love tech and innovation, I believe the humble, plain and simple, good old bicycle, the one that get used daily, is the most important bike there is. SUV ebikes are ok too, I find very dificult to hate on bikes, but they look disposable to me, and that makes me sad

Does a tuned mass damper really do all that much in MTB applications though? The motion of a bike isn't very consistent, so the vibrations will vary a lot.

Yes it does, I can tell you. Have one on my bike and it is a massive difference in how the entire fork/wheel feels.
To mark the official arrival of Crab Link as a thing. I did a thing you can install on your chrome based browser (basically completely 100% stolen from the cloud to butt plugin)
I present Horst Link to Crab Link Chrome based plugin!

Got a Kona Minute with a Bafang BBSHD on it. It goes 30mph and hauls a lot of stuff. I really wish it had suspension. With a CRAB link in the back. Cuz when ya hit a pothole at 30 and you're in "cruiser" mode on a sunny afternoon, it is fuckin sketchy. Slow down, you say? Fat chance once you get used to the POWA and the speed! Its glorious! Worst digger in the last 5 years for me was on... the eSUV, and a little squish might have saved me!

Bike companies are struggling to sell bikes and Giant go a release the new Trance X Advanced SX, one of the best looking fun bikes perfect for Australia in limited countries only so we can't get our hands on it 🤦♂️
I dont want to let this down. 4bar is now crab link for me in this forum. One day I want to see a press release from a bike company, that lurks here, announcing that their frame has “Crab Linkage System”. One day.
I'm honestly shocked the Pivot was the lightest DH bike they weighed by nearly 3lbs.
Shame on Mondraker for denying the scale!
That Haibike looks like an AliExpress Unno.

Does this mean we can start calling the Specialized Rockhopper the Rock Lobster?

homepaged.
The only solution is to show up to MSA with a 45 pound bag of raw, dripping king crab meat and see who will take you up on the offer.

The Horseshoe Crab of the MTB industry, peak evolution.

See it in action here!
Edit: Please, no one actually use this.
The new Pivot DH rig is really cool. I wonder if it could run a dropper, the seat post looks like it could???
What a time to be alive
You could probably use the second chain to crack crab shells

Guys, this is the Tech Rumors and Innovation thread. Let's get it back on track.
There's been a $2230.55 prize offered up by CraberShox if you can win an Elite DH race with a TMD on your unsprung claw.
