I'm getting flashbacks to the days when I would go through a whole role of Mastic tape and wrap my entire swingarm. Don't forget little bits of velcro on your chain device.
It's almost like people don't remember the first round of gucci cnc cranks mostly all failing back in the day. If they aren't forged and then cnc'd to make them pretty they'll fail.

That was a true JRA with video evidence!
I went through three sets of those first Race Face cranks that were supposed to have been forged in quick succession. After the third set I told them to just send me something else as I didn't trust their cranks. I got a bottom bracket that broke on the first ride and gave away the t shirt.
Yeah for sure. Definitely not correct to personally get emotional as a service agent. Clearly the crank should not snap in this application..,
BUT warranty was offered so can‘t complain about that.
Also the guy was not really cooperative or looking for a refund/warranty at all and just kept complaining. Don‘t want to know how he handled the phone call…

Yeah, it's a real shame Cam went straight to socials before the situation was resolved. Especially for someone in the trade.
It's shit his crank snapped but he should have been handled in private first. Now he looks like a bit a of dick too.
5Dev were on the backfoot from the start and thats a shitty position to put someone in.

Ah yes, the coveted and academically accepted “Microsoft paint stress analysis model”
I think the issue is that 5DEV seemed aware of the likelihood of failure and didn't do anything about it, putting Cam in danger by their own inaction. That's especially bad (unfairly or no) for a small company, where the rider has more pride in using their parts than a standard piece of kit. And once you learn that the company knew they had a bad batch of parts and did nothing, what faith can you have in them offering a warranty part? While Cam definitely came in spicy, I'd rather have liked to see 5DEV respond by talking about running a recall on those parts, and adding quality/warranty controls to stop it from happening again.
I’m shocked anyone is trying to justify 5Devs actions. They knew they had faulty shit cranks on the market and continued selling anyway. I see exactly where Cam is coming from. 5Dev made excuses from the get go. Pretty scary those guys produce aerospace products. I will be sure to NEVER recommend let alone purchase anything these guys put out.

I just went through and watched all the guys instagram videos again and missed the part where 5dev were aware of the likelihood of failure. They acknowledged it broke and offered TWO pairs of their stronger freeride cranks or a full refund (which I’d take over a formal apology any day). Was pretty clear the guy posting was a troll from the get go when he responded to their initial message of “how can we help” with “bruh” and a face palm emoji… unfortunate that he got a defective crank but he’s got enough whine it makes me wanna prep a charcuterie board.
To me the CS rep noting that there's an issue with that crank (and jumping right past failure mode/use case investigation)
indicates more of a known model/batch problem than a one-off.
5Dev is wishing someone (anyone) would talk about the Fox Float X2 right now.
I've had nothing but great experiences dealing with Fox / Race Face for warranty issues or service. The X2 may have been problematic (great shock otherwise), but they've kept me as a loyal customer because of their customer service.

That particular crank can mean the Crank that failed rather than the entire line of cranks.
Definitely sucks for the rider but shit happens. What more than a refund does he expect?

For sure, same here!
It was a lighthearted way of showing that lots of manufacturers release and continue to sell parts with “known design issues”. It’s always a judgement call.
Given enough cycles, any part will break somewhere, that’s the reality of design. There’s some pretty nasty X2 failures out there, but Fox continued to sell lots of them because overall it’s a serviceable product and they are willing to stand behind some bad batches. Every part on a bike can let you down in a dangerous way given the right circumstances. 5Dev is a young company that probably has a lot to learn about customer experience, but I don’t think they stepped outside of a “standard of care” for this issue. It’s too bad that this guy had this experience though.
Specialized Dissident 2 launching in 2 days. Specialized Epicaliber(World cup) also in 2 days. New 2f0 shoes also. they look like vans sneakers
I am having trouble getting the photo attached to show up, but here is the cached article, which includes photos.

Chainslap protection still in development…

yeah not after seeing how they handle warranty matters https://www.instagram.com/p/CrKAKzXujTp
Check this shop's story highlight for more context. Bring popcorn.
Ngl, 5Dev could've handled this better.

Primoz called it! New versions looking a lot more normal.
Regardless of how good the product may be. If you have such a guy in charge of your social media, I really can’t trust that company in any way.
I hope this man gets fired and they get someone helping Cam.

What was wrong with how 5dev dealt with that guy? They offered him a refund or new set. He just kept bitching. Literally nothing else you can do lol.

If you're being sarcastic, well, it's just that Microsoft Paint is free. It is also fast and easy to illustrate a concept or idea.
If somebody wants authentic FEA, that's not fast or easy, so it can't be free.
I love the idea of making things in the US, but not at the expense of accepted principles.
