Protection is serious business, and 7iDP has always been serious about it. We’ve had great results with many of their products over the years, from kneepads to helmets, so we are excited to see them release a new high-end half shell now. The Project.21 was designed with increasingly technical and demanding riding in mind, and it comes loaded with both comfort and safety features. Protection specialist 7iDP has had a few helmets in the line-up over the years, but the Project 23 is by far their most ambitious undertaking in this product category. All the development was done in-house over a period of several years, with the goal of producing a lightweight but downhill-certified helmet that offers good breathability. We tested the carbon version last year with good results, so when the more budget-friendly ABS version became available to us we took the opportunity to check it out as well. After a handful of rides, here are our impressions. Strengths Weaknesses Light...
In the spring of 2019, 7iDP launched its all-new full-face helmet, dubbed Project.23. The idea was to create a helmet that offered riders incredible protection while keeping their head cool. Using a full shell design (as opposed to in-mold construction) 7iDP packed features like a carbon shell, Fidlock buckle, anti-microbial liner, and more into its premier offering. We've been testing one for over six months now and have drawn our conclusions on how the new helmet from 7iDP stacks up. The good folks at 7iDP have always been at the forefront of innovation, never quite happy to settle for the status quo or make me-too products. Driven by the ever-growing need for near DH-worthy yet pedal-friendly knee protection, they once again set out to seek a novel approach – Project Knee is the result of that endeavor. Combining the comfort of a slip-on sleeve design with the impact protection of a hard-shell pad, this all new protector also features a knitted fabric that will please those who are sensitive to neoprene or spandex. We’ve had an exclusive opportunity to test this new...
After the helmet, a good pair of knee protectors is probably the most essential piece of protection for any serious mountain bike rider. Not only is falling on your knees painful, but even small injuries to this critical joint can leave you off the bike for a while, which is of course way worse than the actual getting hurt part. When it comes to racing enduro, the demands placed on this particular item of apparel increase exponentially: not only should it be able to deal with crashes on tracks worthy of a World Cup DH race, but it must also be comfortable enough to be worn for full days in the...
It’s no secret that 7iDP produces some of the best-executed protection in mountain biking, and we’ve been thoroughly impressed any time we've had the opportunity to test their products. Featuring customizable spine and shoulder protection, five pockets, and breathable four-way stretch material, it looks as though 7iDP put every ounce of that same thoughtful design and high-quality construction we’re used to seeing from the brand into their short-sleeve Flex Suit. 7iDP Flex Suit Highlights Removable impact-hardening foam shoulder pads Removable CE-approved, impact-hardening foam spine protector...
