Am I the only one who was a bit shocked how they manhandled Goldstone after the finish? I'd be pissed. It was even worse than with Coulanges in France. I get blocking off the crowd, but the winner, really?
Anyway, great racing. And crazy run by Craik (first time a rider wearing a MX helmet gets on the podium?)
I think after what happened in France, their plan is now to get the winning rider to safety up in the hot seat area. Jackson was just so pumped that he fought through it. I can see why the organizers are worried. It can't become the fans all jump the barricades at the end of every race.
Anyway...what a race. Jackson utterly destroyed the rest of the field.
I've been thinking of getting the M10 and using it for both mtb and moto to save money on helmets. It's pretty light weight and I'm assuming it's got a bit more protection then the DH helmet. I'm trying to figure out why not. Like is there different weight biases because on a mtb your head is looking up more and a moto your holding your head forward?

Moto helmets are meant to be able to withstand higher speed impacts, and are heavier because of this, a moto helmet for DH is fine, a DH helmet for moto isnt.

Moto helmets must pass the DOT standard. Essentially the shell is much harder to prevent it splitting on rocks/curbs/concrete.
DH shell does a better job of absorbing impacts by sacrificing itself so that your brain decelerates a little "gentler".
Heck TLD D3 is on mega sale & tests better than tons of helmets. Buy the AStar for moto & snag the D3 for DH. I'd never run one in the other sport.

Anyone hear Cedric saying during the women's podium that this is a great send off for Vali? Is she leaving Trek? And does anyone know exactly what happened to Kade, he mentioned Sponsor politics on WynnTV?
Also why did they only have 3 people on the final Men's Podium and 5 on Women's? I finally got around to watching and have so many questions.
The guy that ran onto the track below the last jump while Goldstone was on track - he got tackled and literally rolled out of the way before it was an issue. But the guy that tackled him - was that a course marshal? Looks like it. I've marshal'd at Snowshoe several times, including 2 weeks ago, and that's not something we've been briefed on. Keeping spectators off the course and behind the tape, yes. Having to tackle them to keep the course clear, not so much. Noted for next time...
I remember a few years ago a deer ran across the track like 10s before a rider came through. The deer cleared the track but several of us looked at each other afterwards like "ok, wtf are we supposed to do there?"
Snowshoe has armed state troopers keeping people away from the finish line.
The differences between Canada and America, right there for ya in a nutshellz.
Haha, true, but there's no reason that couldn't happen by the V-tree or at the double drop under the chair, and there's no state troopers in those sections.

I guess you missed the close call at Snowshoe in the JR race. There are knuckleheads at every race unfortunately.

I think a big part of it too is that at Snowshoe even the people living closest are driving 2 hours into the middle of nowhere (majority are driving double or triple that) and spending a hefty amount on accommodations. People attending Snowshoe are super fans and have respect for the riders and the event. You aren't getting the random people that are just looking to party and cause chaos (atleast until after the race is over lol).

Yup, missed that one. Was marshal'ing XC when that race was going on and didn't watch the JR race. Was that guy just trying to cross the track? Because while bad, that's not nearly as bad as the MSA dude.
Good point on the super-fans, but given't the amount of beer (or moonshine) flowing on the hill, it can be a short trip from super-fan into a super-idiot.

First turn right out of the start hut so no marshall whistles to signal a rider.
That issue has been fixed and won't happen at SnowShoe in 2024.

So, what would have happened if that drunken idiot had affected Jackson's time (besides dropping his beer can on the landing)? Would he have been given a re-run? Security was dialled on that for sure. You can see his beer can just right of Jackson's front tire and the guard pinning pink vest man against the far wall.

There would have been a high likelihood that Goldstone would have gotten hurt by this nimrod. Imagine the effect of a 60(?)kg kid travelling 50+kph unexpectedly hitting this oaf.
Best scenario would be Jackson losing speed, affecting his placing. I'd imagine UCI would give him another shot, but there's no way anyone would be able to get the chairlift up the hill and do another run right away and expect to go nearly as fast.

Wow. Now it really sets in. Perfect capture of how ludicrous that guy was.
Whoever invited your pink vest buddy needs to go all Full Metal Jacket on him with the sheets & soap in a towel.

Best of both worlds.
Looking at the footage on Troy's vlog it was more akin to watching someone being arrested rather than being protected.

I personally think every post should be "what happened with Kade" until we get an answer.

There is supposedly no race a Snowshoe in 2024, only race is in MSA in North America or so it is said.
my post was intentionally sarcastic.
There is officially no SnowShoe 2024. Spread the word.
