We just posted up a fresh B Practice Podcast covering Snowshoe, plus a ton of other racing-related topics that I think people will find interesting. We also chatted about what to do with the #VitalMTBShortsBounty. Since nobody took down the bounty at Snowshoe, we've decided it only makes sense to extend the offer to MSA this weekend. The same rules apply, and hopefully, someone doesn't pass up on easy money! From chatting with Dakotah, it seems like the word got out at Snowshoe about the bounty. But I'm sure the more people that drop ##VitalMTBShortsBounty comments on social, the better chance we have of seeing someone blasting down MSA, shins glistening, looking like Minnaar and Ratboy in 2015.
Here are the rules again:
$250 for any Junior who finishes on the podium in finals (*must wear shorts on the podium)
$250 for any Elite who races finals in shorts
If multiple riders wear shorts, the fastest time wins
Bounty is up for grabs in each category (Junior & Elite Women, Junior & Elite Men)

Can we do some crowd funding for the shorts bounty. I'd be more than happy to throw a couple of bucks in the for the grins!
so bernard DM'd us and said according to rule 4.3.013 "long sleeve jersey and pants" are required. we'll see if anyone goes extra rogue, but that's a bummer...for now.
Altenative solution then : the winner can ride in pants, but needs to have his legs's picture printed 360 degrees from the knee so it looks like shorts ? All the looks while having the protection and compliance with the rules.

4.3.011 says you can wear short pants with the proper knee and shin protection. you do have to have a long sleeve jersey though.
Pants Long pants or short pants combined with suitable knee and shin protection are authorised. Such long or short pants should be of a type that is specifically designed and sold for use in BMX Racing or Mountain Bike downhill events. Long pants of the type described above must be of one-piece construction and made of tear-resistant material. They should cover the entire length of both legs until just above the shoe or ankle. Short pants of the type described above must be of one-piece construction and made of tear-resistant material. They should be worn together with suitable leg protection, that covers the entire knee and the entire shin until just above the ankle. (text modified on 1.01.23).
4.3.013 says
The UCI strongly recommends that riders wear the following protection: − back, elbow, knee and shoulder protectors made of rigid materials; − protection for the nape of the neck and the cervical vertebrae; − padding on shins and thighs; − broad full-length trousers made from rip-resistant material incorporating protection for the knees and calves, or broad-cut shorts made from rip-resistant material plus knee and calf protectors with a rigid surface; − long sleeved shirt; − full finger gloves.
so this may be an ammendment to that rule then. here's what was sent (full language cut off...says "due to the USA" and then stops. maybe Canada is good to go?)

could be National Feds can impose their own rules. Not sure what the Cycling Canada says as the rule book doesn't seem to be on the website

I appreciate everyone's enthusiasm and wanting to add to the pot for the Shorts Bounty. So rad!! But for now we are just going to keep it to the $250 we will put up.
However, since we started doing the Burgtec Labour of Love award this year with the podcast, many have chimed in wanting to donate additional funds. I'd rather people help out with that award because it goes to riders who are often up-and-coming and need the money most to continue chasing the dream. So with that said, I'll look into options for next season for people to add money to the Labour of Love award. I'll probably start another forum topic at some point to gauge interest and how we should organize donating (gather money pre-season and disperse evenly at each round, or open donations per round, etc.)
So all top contenders in the junior men category are either out or missed races due to injury. Incredible speed but luck does not look to be on their side.

Our team rider Taylor Ostgaard went down on the last stepdown yesterday in practice as well. She dislocated her hip, and it was out of place for 3.5 hours. SUPER bummed for her coming off a 2nd at Snowshoe she was looking really strong coming into this weekend.

It's P26 on the regulations here. Could be that the local regulations supercede the UCI regulations, e.g. having to wear elbow or back protectors in World Cups in certain countries?
latest dialed.

According to GTFactoryRacing insta: Pinky went down and to hospital. Didn’t sound like he would be back… but who knows?

major bummer, but at least he locked up the title at snowshoe.

Sheesh, another big slam for Bodhi and another junior out for this weekend :/
uff. That head bounce was gross.
What page is the amendment on that Bernard sent a photo of? All I see is the rules on page 11 that don't say anything about no shorts.
He is doing well. He is out of the hospital with a couple broken ribs, but feeling good no concussion or anything. He is in good spirits.
This was sent through the official UCI team whatsapp chat to TM's
ugh, the junior class taking some beatings. sorry to hear about all these injuries!
re: shorts bounty, so elites can wear shorts (only recommending pants)? maybe it's #VitalJuniorHockeyGearOnTheOutside bounty at MSA?
edit - what if you're not on the team whatsapp chat? how would half the groms know they can't wear shorts?
How indeed...
