The interviews with riders are awesome, we need more. But what the world cup scene is lacking is 'news coverage' like a reporter who works the hill all day, asking questions, reporting, etc. Then has a 5 minute 'broadcast' that is edited down to a recap of everything that went on in the day (course drama, flat tires, crashes, wild rides, rider comments, etc.). What happened in peoples runs, etc. It shouldn't just be WBD's broadcast during the race days.
USA Jrs. nabs some short track XC medals! solid week for American groms! from USAC

PAL ARINSAL, Andorra – August 30, 2024 – It was a day dedicated to Cross-Country and Short Track racing for Juniors, U23s, and Elites at the 2024 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships in Pal Arinsal, Andorra. Elite Men’s XCC Inagural Short Track World Champion Christopher Blevins (Durango, Colo.; Specialized Factory Racing) was the only American in this evening’s race. A front row call up for Blevins allowed him to have a great start heading into the first turn of the 10-lap race. Blevins stayed in the front of the race while chaos ensued on the dusty track behind him. The front was aggressive with riders charging for positions any chance they could. Victory Koretzky (FRA) attacked on lap nine and pulled away with a small gap on the group to ultimately win the World Title. Blevins kept good positioning into the finishing straight and sprinted to the line. It came down to a photo finish for the bronze medal, where he got edged out taking fourth.

It was a front row call up for Courtney and Blunk, with Gibson just behind for a fast and furious start. France’s Pauline Ferrand Prevot (FRA) was able to create a gap in the first few laps, but Evie Richards (GBR) came up from behind to add pressure to the group. The Americans kept the leaders in their sights but were not able to close the gap on a medal position. By the last lap, Gibson, Courtney, and Blunk were on the chase and sprinted to the line finishing fifth, seventh, and eighth, all finishing within 15 seconds of a podium position.
The Junior Men’s race was stacked with 84 of the best riders from around the world ready to take on the five lap, 20-kilomter XCO race. Albert Philipsen (DEN) took an early lead on the first lap and never looked back. The American team made up of Henry Coote (Manchester, Mass.; Competitive Edge, River Valdez (Sedona, Ariz.; Bear National Team), Ezra Caudell (Acworth, Ga.; Gravity Collective), and Luke Mosteller (Tunnell Hill, Ga.; Bear National Team) was led by the Colorado native, Nicholas Konecny (Breckenridge, Colo.; Bear National Team). Anyone else surprised that the French jerseys are legal? They’re very clearly the same fit and at least similar material to the XC jerseys. I don’t have any issues with it, just curious where the UCI actually draws the line.
Dangit... Did ok but couldn't replicate the sub 100 showings of VDS and LG. 129th is decent given some of my riders crashing out. Initially my team looked VERY close to 1st place picks. I just didn't play the spread smart enough I should have picked more ladies. I just thought the ladies rankings lining up with their qualy results was gonna be iffy for points paid in the end.

Well what an absolute $hit show that was. After paying for a subscription of total garbage that i dont want then paying the EXTRA for the sport package to watch the World Cups. I find out after all my beers are cold and my ribs and wings are well on the way to being ready for the group of riders coming to watch on the big screen that my subscription provider DOES NOT HAVE the World Championship. It’s been handed to out to 2 completely different services. So we spend 40 mins trying to work out who has it then discover the product is not compatible with my devices and we revert to a Saturday night watching Vital Raw videos on the tube. And here I was thinking Mr Ball and his Warner Bro’s wanted to expand the sport. THIS IS NOT THE WAY
Obviously the World Cup and World Championships means Europe and possibly some North American viewers. Maybe I’m the only mountain biker in Australia. If we can’t have Redbull back at least make it accessible. Last year I paid for GCN+ at an exorbitant rate but at least I could watch races when I wanted if I missed them live.
Thanks again Vital for saving the day and at least getting us some FREE footage to save our Saturday night

SBS or SBS on demand. If it’s on Stan it should be all on Stan. Don’t sell bits to different streaming providers . That’s not growing the sport. One nice neat package is the smart option. I didnt mind paying last year for GCN+ even though it was a bit pricey and it took a LONG time to get my refund once they shut it down.

SBS has had the rights for the world championships for years. Fortunately for Australia it was for free and on demand.
In the time it took you to tap out your rant you could have googled the answer and be watching on SBS demand. The global broadcasters had been posted on Vital, Pinkbike, SBS, UCI website and others.
The UCI packages all of the cycling world champs and SBS has the rights in Australia. Fox/Kayo also has the pay tv rights in Australia if you have that.

I know SBS has the World Championship rights and has had for many years. The only time they’ve showed it live was 2009 Canberra and 2016 Cairns. But that didn’t help me because I was there at the race. Pinkbike said it was on Kayo yet Stan has the World Cup series and they are not owned by the same people. I didn’t live on SBS anywhere we looked it said delayed
. Also if you’d payed attention I had my Rant on Sunday. Not while we were searching for it.

SBS had it live as did Kayo this year.
Pinkbike simply pulled their info from the UCI World Champs website linked HERE. While the UCI MTB Socials had a post on the day with the details and the link was in their bio.
Scroll back to page one of this thread and I had also provided a link to the SBS website well before it was published on Pinkbike etc.
SBS showed last year at Fort Bill live.
Again to sound like a broken record, the UCI sells the broadcast rights for the World champs separate to the World Cups, SBS has the rights and has done it this way for years. Nothing different. For Australian's its free and on demand so we get a great (apart from the sub par commentary) deal.

Did anyone else try the line Dak was going for at the bottom?
Loris for comparison...
I was standing right there for this section during practice - not sure about the race, but yes, 99% of riders were taking a high line then crossing over the tech, ending up far left line out. Dak was the only one I saw just go straight through there, over a stump, and basically going low to high rather than high to low. it was unique - it didnt look faster in practice but looked like less turns / tech - but I can see how that line would have gathered dust rather than been carved in.
Not the best track - everyone took basically the same line. Kudos to Dak for full gas, he would have been just fine choosing that common line at the bottom.

Had that question too. Glad to hear from the perspective of someone on site. From what I saw of practice & race videos, taking the line Dak was on wasn't as beneficial for exit speed onto that grass bank for the finish berm but it was time gained b/c of the shorter distance & steeper pitch. Just watched his helmet cam run on YouTube. The exit of the turn from his line looks like it would hurt momentum trying to get across that grass to the berm??
My assumption is the turn held you for practice, but come finals 100+ men & women on the main line to riders left put way more silt on the crux of the turn & where he had grip in practice, it was soft silt come late day/last runs.
Did you see if he did his race line in qualifying by chance?
That was the commentary I got as well. The male dude was REALLY hard to listen to. Having T-Mo as co host was amazing and honestly I wish she would have just pushed the dude out of the box. Warner Bro's needs to pick her up, she did amazing.

Really nice Sven interview with Greg. Loris is discussed 😀
Wyn's interview & discussion of gearing/braking/bodyweight is well worth a listen.58 minute mark of WynTV
I mean something totally different.
Jack Rice checks in from Andorra and the 2024 UCI Downhill Mountain Bike World Championships with interviews from the podium riders and Greg Minnaar, who continues to troll us about possible retirement.

World Champs Elite Race Replay - Flo Sports put it on YouTube!
Gotta say, if WB was putting full replays online (maybe one week after?) I'd have a much better opinion of them.
This way I can't really moan about commentary; its free
I figured if I can dish out $80+ for boxing/mma payperviews, I may as well shell out $30 for Worlds.
That being said… the commentator guy sounded like he was in dire need of Andoran laxatives.
someone sent over this rad 4-up overlay of runs from dak, loris, loic and coulanges. for forum fans only.
That was the commentary I got as well. The male dude was REALLY hard to listen to. Having T-Mo as co host was amazing and honestly I wish she would have just pushed the dude out of the box. Warner Bro's needs to pick her up, she did amazing.
