Again, Gwin will be collecting a solid check for the frame brand he is riding. He's not going to be on Contra or some tiny brand that can't come up with up $75-100k+/yr for him to ride their frames.

I'm no Gwin hater, but I don't think Gwin can pull that kind of salary from a frame sponsor alone when he's running his own team and not on a factory team. Maybe collectively for his whole team, but not by himself. Historically his high payouts were the result of his performance (win) bonus structure. Objectively speaking, the last time Gwin was on a WC podium was 2018. Don't get me wrong, I'm stoked he's still racing and even more stoked he's investing in bike parks, US racing, etc, but I'm not holding my breath that he's going to have the kind of winning season that resulted in his million dollar yearly payout. His name recognition does carry value, but that's only one part of the equation when it comes to sponsors opening their checkbooks.
People talking about what Gwin might get paid on a "factory" team vs Gwin Racing are missing the point that Gwin Racing is exactly the same organisation as IFR was last year with Dak replaced with another younger, probably cheaper rider.
He's been the team owner for a while. He's a good businessman and I'm sure he'll have some lucrative component and frame sponsorships lined up for the team to make sure it is well funded and he gets paid what he's worth.
Intense is off the table. Not being IFR anymore confirms this. Frameworks is tiny and can't afford to pay for another team so it won't be them. Yeti makes a lot of sense. GT would make sense, especially if there was a Windrock rental fleet tie in.
Trek and Spesh are already sponsoring a bunch of teams, but who knows?
But Aaron has surprised us all a few times before. It's the one thing keeping team rumours season exciting!
Them still being on old bikes could lend to the Yeti rumor... they're 1-off protos and there's only a few out there. It probably takes a month or 2 to make them. It's not like they just pull them off a shelf in a warehouse.
I never post here, but have lurked for years. This years rumor thread has been so epic with so many fun high/lows. The very first world cup dh race I had access to live was South Africa 2011 when Qwin won "out of nowhere", and Warner was walking about eating his hat. I will never accept that he isnt on the verge of a comeback, and this year is no different. I wouldnt doubt him.
Personally while I think it’s unlikely I’d love it if gwin went without a frame sponsor and just rode whatever frame he tests to be best. Not that uncommon in other two wheeled sports and neko has proven you don’t need a frame sponsor to put a budget together with far less resources than Aaron has at his disposal.
Not really a rumor, since it's published on UCI's team listings for 2024, but Nathan Pontvianne and Mylann Falquet are shown as members of the Goodman Santacruz team. UCI listed them as members of the Pinkbike team last year, although they apparently only received "support" (whatever that means) from PB.
Nathan placed 2nd overall in Men's Juniors last year and Mylann was 4th in Juniors. Nathan took 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in 3 of the last 5 races. Mylann placed 2nd and 3rd in the last 2 races of the season.
I don't know if they are still Juniors for 2024. They join former PB rider Thibault Laly on the Goodman Santacruz team. Also on the team is Malo Rochet, who took 2nd in the French National DH Championship last year as a U17 rider.
Just passing that along in case it might be of interest in terms of riders to keep an eye on this season. Seems like a young team with tons of potential.
Woooo
Glad to see AG is racing.
Mikey Delesalle has some recent socials on a Commencal, but then this video of him riding in Temecula:

I went back and looked at this again, and I don't think it's Mikey in front, I think he's filming. He's got a white helmet half helmet and when Gavin wear a half his is black. Gavin rides for Specialized.
Seth was tagged 6d ago by TRP for their new drivetrain and it was him and Cody Kelly in the vid (in what looks like SoCal). Seth's on a Intense and Cody on Specialized. That could be months old footage, though.
Windrock lists the Commencal Supreme, Commencal Furious, and Specialized Status as rental bikes. Gwin has owned Windrock since October. If there was a relationship between Windrock's rental fleet and Gwin's racing partner, I'd think the rental fleet would have seen a turnover with new ownership. Anyone know how long Windrock has been renting Commencal bikes?
Commencal going for a big name American rider could be a similar strategy that Mondraker is taking with Dak. Get an American on your product so that Americans are more comfortable riding these lesser-known brands.

Has anyone watched Katy Winton’s vlog in which she apparently divulges her 2024 program? I’m interested but I can’t be bothered to watch anybody’s vlog.

Windrock has been renting Commencal's since a little after the National there last year.

It‘s her in front, not on the cam. Read the caption guys!
This is her, but what bike is it?
Pretty sure Katy is the rider riding in front , not the one with the camera and a massive tattoo
on the left arm……
4th is not on the podium, god damn that was a silly thing to do
In what other discipline is 4th a friggin podium.
It was a mistake when it first happened, but I understand it. It should have been a one time thing.
Cube? NS?

And Michael Delesalle is still on his Commencal as of 2 days ago, so looks like they are all still riding their old bikes for now.
Don't let socials fool you. A lot of that stuff you see can be old footage. There is a clip of him riding in Temecula on a bike that's covered up.
