Yes - in the roller door podcast from SC. They mentioned to have received new prototype Saint cranks in Les Gets / Andora/ Loudenvielle (cannot recal which venue it was). They immediately went to a O chain with the new direct mount.

I hope this means that Shimano will make a 104BCD spider for their direct mount cranks, as the only ones that are available currently are aliexpress ones, which I wouldn't trust on any crank never mind a downhill spec crank like a Saint. I am assuming there is a reason why there are no good aftermarket options but I'd love to know why, because I know I would buy one if it existed!
Also does anyone have any updates on the upcoming SRAM Maven brakes? They've been out in the wild for ages now, and look to be relatively close to production

I would assume the new direct mount Saint would just use the direct mount chainrings as their other direct mount MTB cranks. Just curious, is there a reason why you would prefer a direct mount crank -> spider -> 104BCD chainring over a direct mount crank -> direct mount chainring?
I run a hope evo direct mount crank with a hope 104 spider simply for the ease of finding chain rings, also comes with the added benefit of being able to run integrated bash guards
Specialized demos had ohlins with spherical bearings in like 2017. I actually went back to traditional bushings as any sort of sideways landing would pop the rose joint out of the eyelet, the shock would then contact the inside of the frame and ruin a carbon one. Good In theory but execution was lacking. Pretty sure geometron do they same in their bikes with EXT’s
Iv'e always said that someone should do that. There was a shock a few pages back with the same set up and people were Sure it was just a prototype thing. Why not just make one part for both? It's not that much extra weight.

Some bikes could in theory have clearance issues putting both standard and trunnion in. Part of the reason why trunnion exists in the first place.

This, I would wager most bikes that run trunnion would have clearance issues. The Float X, when released, caused major issues for frame manufactures even in its traditional mounting form.

Few pages back it was the very same shock. And the reason why others don't do that is the reason why trunion BS was created in the first place, there is not enough space. If you want to have all the extra shock length sitting there for no reason whatsoever, feel free but it makes no sense.

The list of shocks that historically used ball joints: cane creek DB, ohlins ttx, push 11/6, ext storia for G1, even though I'm positive that you can ask them to build one for other frames as well.

On Bike And Big Ideas podcast steve from Vorsprung confirmed that the 2 mounts on 1 shock were from proto reasons. Good podcast, they talk about many details.
Not sure when aftermarket forks will go on sale, Fox seems to be clearing 2022/23 inventory still. However the new 2024 cartridges are available in some countries.
Not sure how this fits into the ''Innovation'' part of the topic, but anyways: Fox showing up at A1 (Supercross) with a one-piece suit for one of their riders. Apparently there's no immediate plans for production. And for those wondering, there's supposed to be an opening/closure right around where rider's names are usually placed on the jersey back to enter these suits.
Perhaps one of the Fox Mtb athletes will rock up at the first WC with one of these?

The UCI doesn't allow one piece suits in DH. So not likely.

Makes a lot of sense for pros as it can be tailored to them and it's lighter and more aero, but I can't see it selling well to consumers in the current market
It is sad, but the reality is bike purchases are heavily driven by aesthetics. In some ways you want to respect companies that cling to their image but is it really worth doing so at the expense of failing? Ibis adapted by getting rid of the swoopy top tube. But Intense is another example of a company that refuses to get rid of questionable branding and may go the way of the dodo if they don't adapt. Need to take ques from the brands gaining marketshare... i.e. WAO & Forbidden, clean lines & minimal branding.
Bikes need to look sexy to sell. Like it or hate it. I'm sure I'll get downvoted for stating the ugly truth.
Sounds like the new Norco Sight high pivot is coming out this week.
I was surprised to see the early teasers coming out on social media. Supposed to be a March drop.
A little birdie told me something about the new Norco high pivot bikes. The Optic, Sight, and VLT versions of the Sight and Range designs will have a non-concentric idler wheel depending on the model. “Dynamic idler” was what I heard. Sounds like they won’t be positioned right at the pivot, but slightly off depending on how they want the specific bike to feel…
News YT Tues coming on MoiMoiTV

Vorsprung posted an IG blurb about their new rear shock, Shocky McShockface. There's even a picture!

I’ll help.
Finally a damper with ball joint instead of plain bushing.
Worst post ever
Nah bro. I’m gonna have to say it’s the “mY rEviEwS aRe gETtiNg deLeTeD” guy.
Ohlins do something like that already I think, albeit not built in

Since when is the new 2024 Fox 38 Upgrade available in the forks?
Do aftermarket forks have this upgrade or will they get it later this year?
2024 forks will have the new damper upgrades. Fox has it detailed here - https://www.ridefox.com/fox17/help.php?m=bike&id=2880.
Not sure when aftermarket forks will go on sale, Fox seems to be clearing 2022/23 inventory still. However the new 2024 cartridges are available in some countries.
S4 has them in Canada (https://s4suspension.com/products/fox-grip2-cartridge?variant=403502483…) and I know you can have your LBS order from Fox in the USA.
I'm gonna call it a draw,
Making a post, about a new product, and letting us know theres a pic, without actually including the pic is.......GodDamnIt.

Nicely cropped so whiskeythrottlemedia and Sven Martin (squidsontour) get no credit for that shot

Not sure if this fits here or in the team rumours - Orange bikes has gone into administration!
