this right here is an argument that they're trying to turn DH into F1. good drivers who commit the sin of not being 25 or younger and not being at the very top of the field for even a couple years, regardless of mitigating circumstances, find themselves with no path to ever race in F1 again all the time.
Gwin not having a clear path to race again, even if you think he shouldn't or can't be competitive, is a big change from the way this sport worked just 2 years ago.

It would be criminal if Vali is on 100k. I would expect her base salary to be 3-4x that at least.

Regarding salaries, I don’t think any rider, no matter how good their last season was - is making more than last year. Unless they may have moved up from a small team to a big factory set up like Kolb did. I dunno about his salary. But I know due a fact, that - in enduro at least - top riders on big teams take hefty pay cuts.
