DZR has some sweet looking shoes that you can use for commuting and, heck, even ride in the dirt on. With these, you don’t need to bring an extra pair of shoes for when you get off your bike with clipless. I forgot backup shoes once and was running around the biotech lab I worked at in my clipless shoes. Not so fun and actually rather treacherous. Last year, the Shift was the first flat pedal shoe added to the DZR collection. The Shift comes in three colors that were co-designed with three world-renowned artists, Burrito Breath, Wakako, and D Young. Each artist designed the interior of the shoes to compliment the exterior design of the new Shift. My favorite is the Shift Red co-designed with Wakako, one of two female traditional Japanese tattoo artists working in the United States and who’s passion for bicycles led her to co-open a bike shop in Tokyo, Japan.
The flat pedal shoe’s tread design and rubber stickiness was fine-tuned together with Tyler McCaul. The rubber is not overly sticky rubber so you aren’t stuck to the pedals. The thoughtfully designed tread pattern is shallower near the ball of the foot, deeper towards the middle of the sole, and at the toe and heel the chain-link pattern is ramped for improved traction.
