Mariana Salazar returns to racing in Les Gets! If you don't know, she was diagnosed with cancer a year ago, right after the race in Les Gets. She is finally able to return to racing after being a course sweeper at french national champs. Really this is the best news of the all week! Her fight went completely under the radar, I feel she deserves some recognition.
Just a correction: she raced a round of the french cup this summer, but it's her first world cup since cancer treatment.

Yeah...not gonna lie. Someone needs to punt Chris Ball in the baby maker. The "30" is such garbage in a sport where people on 2 wheel balance bikes slip and slide down the steepest mountains on earth in a panic.
It's clear the new org is tying to create emotional connections between specific riders and the fans. Keeping the same group of riders on broadcasts and start lists in theory facilitates that. They are also trying to create drama - see their SM post about Bruni last week when he took the lead over Finn with the big headline "It was tense in the team". UCI fanning those flames....but also some real housewives type shit. Sadly that shit sells in this day and age.
Aside from rider development and race experience issues with their new vision, the other thing they seem to be missing is that underdogs make great stories and create emotional connections too! How sick is it to see some of these lower ranked riders coming out swinging!!! That's what I love and many times, who Im pulling for. It just adds spice and flavor that's not there in a more curated environment.

Im sure the more competitive field in both mens and womens has some to do with it. But it's also hard to ignore the addition of Semi's and also the pending 2024 team implosions that must be putting more pressure on riders to have strong 2023 results.
It's almost as if doubling the number of race runs doubles the risk (it actually more than doubles the risk because of fatigue).

Not really surprising. Just look at how much fabricated bullshit there is in their "reality" shows.
Majority of the injuries this season have come during practice. Not qualifying, semis or finals.
Glad someone pointed this out. The narrative that DH is getting faster and more dangerous has been the same for years and years. The bikes are more capable than ever, riders train more and are fitter and stronger than ever - it's not too surprising that when everyone is pushing as hard as they are that when they crash, there's likely to be more speed involved and that injuries will come about because of it.
There are things that aren't being done as well this year as they have been in the past, but trying to pin absolutely everything on the changeover is wearing pretty thin.
That extends to some of the riders too. Even when one of the elites were saying about how good the track was last week, they still found time to have a dig at the UCI about it (not even for anything in particular either). Appreciate there are plenty of things riders aren't as big a fan of this year but even bitching and moaning about things being good doesn't seem like it's really going to be helping with getting their actual complaints heard and listened to.

Basic math says there will always be more injuries in practice than racing.
There are far more runs in practice than race runs, even with adding a semi finals. 30 finals runs + 60 semi finals runs + 1 run for everyone in qualifying is far less runs than 4-5 practice runs for every rider x2 practice sessions.
After the semis I was wondering what's up with Jordan Williams. He finished 31st in semis and missed the finals.
He's now 13th in the standings, with 680 points, and 322 of those points came in the first race of the season. Including Les Gets, his last 3 races he's earned 25, 61, and 38 points.

are these guys ment to be professional commentators? Several Times they had people riding trek remedy's, poor vali doing DH on a 150/160 27.5 small bike.

Yup, I mentioned it in the other thread. It's 50% of the top 30.
Anyone know how many not on some form of UCI team (i.e. privateers)?
looks like 2. Adam Rojcek and Gonçalo Bandeira. but Bandeira is supported a bit by Scott just not listed on the UCI team
As Spomer said, #snooze if all these riders aren't on the circuit any longer.
Just look at how long it took someone like Benoit to work his way up...

Wanna feel like you're closer to the talent level of a World Cup racer?
10 seconds into this BK clip, you'll feel it.

Video on Luca's IG of a big slip out in his qualy run.
To still make it in the middle of the field, he must have been hauling prior!!!
Dean Lucas says Mont-Ste-Anne will be his final downhill race and he's retiring at the end of the season.
It's almost as if doubling the number of race runs doubles the risk (it actually more than doubles the risk because of fatigue).
Who could have foreseen this?

Is star+ broadcasting the race?
Benoit first race win in france!
andi first win in austria
hopefully Luca or Dak can do it in snowshoe!
More “stack shaming” from the booth during Dak’s run.
Congrats to Benny on finally doing the deed.
has to be the world's friendliest elite men's podium.
agreed the stack shaming must end.
the camera switching hiccups with the hosts staring into the camera for way too long were priceless.
and bike abuse is up : )
Can you explain “stack shaming”? Sorry I am french :-)
Commentators making fun of Dak’s preference for mile-high handlebars.

He wasn’t protected? Wow.

Hatton too
Considering she could've taken the overall, that was a classy bit of losing from Vali as she crossed the line. Great to see Marine back up there.
And then Benoit, so good to see him finally get that win.
The crowd was insane, stoked for Benoit and Marine to win on home soil. What a vibe that would have been to be on the finish line. Mayhem!
