OTB podcast is Australia or Austria or whatever, so they’re hard to understand. But it makes sense they’d know about Kangaroo Kolb. the most recent one I was able to hear references the proposed changes, worth a listen too. Where’d this other ep go?
PB not even mentioning it, we need real reporting!

The talk at the time was specifically that they would not be filling in the 'missing' spot. The deal fell through so all of it is moot, but goes to show that there is some arbitrary choosing going on there too. It's not 'X best teams by rider's world rankings' or something like that.

While there are team points and a team winner of the season, mtb is still very much an individual sort. Loic didn't need strong teammates to directly help him win races. Indirectly it can help, sharing setup ideas, finding lines, and general team atmosphere helps but it doesn't directly win races.
Road bike racing on the other hand is much more dependent on having a strong team of riders to be able to win races. Team tactics are a huge deal in road racing.
I know, I know. But the part I was aiming at doesn't have anything to do with tactics and race performance.
Like I said, UCI WorldTour teams look to be chosen arbitratrily too. There 18 of them for the last few years before 2020, 19 of them in 2020 and 2021 and 18 again since then. My main point was that, when there was talk of two World Tour teams merging, the number would go down to 17 and UCI specifically said they would not promote a ProTour team to fill in the 'vacant' 18th spot. They would keep the number of teams at 17. The merger did not happen and we still have 18 teams.
Point here being that UCI could have decided that there will now be 17 teams, for no other reason than them choosing. It does not look like the WorldTour is comprised of the '18 best teams by rider rankings in the UCI points list' or something to that tune. It's the teams chosen by UCI. So if they are doing that on the road, it's not much of a surprise they can decide to arbitrarily choose MTB teams too.
It has added some more interesting story lines to the racing for those that follow it. It brings more factors into it than just the top 3 on the podium. It also has teams sending some of their top tier riders to lesser known events in order to collect points, arguably good for those events to have the bigger name riders show up. The World Tour is exponential bigger than DH.
Noticed this comment from Brian park (PB Managing Editor) in response to the EU-only DHI calendar: "I have it on very good authority that the EU-only calendar floating around is incorrect, and there are several North American stops confirmed."
Maybe it's because I have been a fan since before the Freecaster/ RedBull days. I think the GCN app was good as it bundled all cycling racing into a single source and I didn't mind paying for it.
I was surprised at how, for the most part, the Making Up the Numbers crew were positive about the directions they’re trying to take the sport (minus a few proposed changes). Just seems that it’s the methodology and lack of communication that are really frustrating folks.
So many drama queens. The sky is falling. I think the changes will be good in the long run.Maybe it's because I have been a fan since...

Couldn't agree more, so many people getting angry about misinformation and conjecture. World Cup racing has been in flux since it's inception. This is just the next change in a long line of changes. Seems to me that the main source of anger on the forums and comments sections is that it's no longer "free" to watch DH racing.
But for those of use who have paid to watch the DH racing (especially the womens) has been some of the best ever.
What I gather from this forum is that the World Cup should be free to enter for anyone who wants a "shot", but the tracks should all be really gnarly and difficult, the top riders should get paid big salaries, but the bike brands should also support all the privateers (so they ain't really privateers). It should all be free to watch on RB tv with Rob Warner as series OVERLORD. The broadcast needs to be punchy and interesting, but still we need 80 men in finals and 30 women, and of course because anyone can enter there is 500 riders, so practice has to last 4 days? Or something like that?

I don't know anything about 2025, but 2026 is on the verge of having something way out of left field happen to give "some" legitimacy to being a "World" Cup! #tease

Hey guys, a few people have asked why we took the pod down for a bit over the weekend. Quick explanation…
I want to give everyone on the pod a platform to speak candidly. With this episode we were up against it, we only recorded on Friday morning & I knew Singletrack were publishing on Friday evening, so we rushed it out & Jack, Emilie & Joe didn’t get a chance to listen back to it until it was live. On reflection there were a couple of bits where people wished they’d phrased things differently. I was racing at the time in a field in Wales & didn’t have the files with me to re-edit (or any decent internet) so I took it down for a bit. I've seen a bit of speculation about bits being removed but I can confirm no big revelations were removed

The Vali episode drops on Thursday…
Cheers!
Oh let us have our murderously paranoid corporate conspiracy theories George. You'll take the panic out of it. 🙃
One thing they touched on in the Making up the Numbers podcast I found interesting was WB being of the mind that Rob Warner would turn casual fans away. I’ve made non-bike people sit down and watch a World Cup and they all agree that Rob brings up the engagement for them. (haven’t made them watch post WB takeover ironically) Like Jeremy Clarkson on Top Gear, he’s engaging for non-car people. I know this horse has been throughly beaten and I’m generally optimistic about where WB is taking it but stuff like this makes it no mystery why everyone on the other site is so pessimistic.
Looks like it’s gone off Apple too - I can still listen via Pocketcasts, maybe give that a try.

That is weird.....appears to have been scrubbed from existance.
that link posted above still works, yes. last 15min have the good rumour bits/
It's still on their website.

Are you seriously expecting me to believe that Austria and Australia are completely different countries.......what do you take me for??
no dude pretty sure over here

If you want to make your head spin start reading about the UCI World Tour Team Relegation drama of points, rule changes, and wildcard spots.
The UCI has a long history of screwing stuff up..

Looks like PB published the full thing.

if "several" means "two, but realistically 1.5 b/c one of the two may not even get DH approved."
How to kill DH racing thanks UCI + Warner Bros + Discovery
Your opinion is highly valued below the line over there.

according to PB jack menzies is off canyon after just 1 season, he had a good season though IMO.
Almost all the EDR teams are calling it a day. Basically everyone will be going back to the privateer days with their own “non factory” sponsors
