I thought that was excellent. Good views of the riding, good commentary (I laughed when they knew the name of the dog trailside!), no awkward filler, the portraits of the riders without helmets at start of every run. I was trying to enjoy it more than analyze it so didn't have a stopwatch or anything, but of a 2:10-3:00 race run time it felt like half was shown. If a rider lost of gained time on a split it didn't seem mysterious. This one might be contentious, but I think the slower track conditions made it easier to watch, too. Even with all the former pro race experience plus track walk and whatever info they pick up from riders during the week, it seems like the world cup commentators just don't know what the rider is doing more often than not and part of that has to be down to visible sections being so short and speeds so high that the information isn't there (like low resolution) or the moment is long gone.

With EWS (a couple years back), Hardline Tasmania, and this all being shown delayed to give time to edit, I wonder if there are some people on the world cup production team wondering if that could make the world cup productions a little less nonsense, maybe avoid changing the format of the event itself too much to cater to the needs of live TV. No opinion formed on that one.

Here's and opinion: tire noise > crowd noise

That literally covered most every key thing you can associate with Sven that a casual acquaintance knows of the SilverBack,
There was:
Pro Skate
Anka the rock!
Climbing a thing (granted that was a tiny thing for SilverBack in the grand scheme of his photo annals)
Rain
Slipping into VIP
Remote camera
Moped skills
3am editing

Honestly the only thing that video left out was the old school savage trackside banter/insults/cutthroat/jockeying/scuffles/kerfuffles w/ other media squids.

Good on ya furry fella! Laughing

On tire noise being greater than crowd noise... Get ready for all of the whistles that will be in the background of the TN National video coming up in a couple weeks Whistling

If they create a liv for DH run it on proper tracks and pay the athletes sadly I have to say I’m for it.  Maybe it will make UCI rethink their approach.

This is why I loved the racing during Covid.  The whole broadcast was like watching a vital raw.  You could hear Loris coming from a mile away.  Dude has some lungs.

ride companion's fantasy leage is live https://www.theracecompanion.com/ - they're covering crankworx events which is rad and WCs when they start.

like we teased in our In/Out article on Jan 1, we'll have our MTB fantasy rolling for WC DH racing starting w/ fort bill (works just like Vital MX fantasy which has been running for SX season this year).

have also heard PB fantasy is coming back, but no confirmation aside from one source. either way, from basically none-fantasy to all fantasy in 2024 LOL.

from UCI - how amateurs can get to world cup status...focusing on enduro and e-enduro.

WHOOP UCI MOUNTAIN BIKE WORLD SERIES OFFERS PATHWAY FOR AMATEUR RIDERS TO COMPETE AT ELITE LEVEL

Mountain bike is a sport enjoyed by millions all over the world as a way to get outdoors and spend time with friends and family, but it remains, for a few, about pushing themselves to their very limits.

25 events across 21 different countries are part of the Enduro qualifying calendar, where points can be won to earn qualification to the UCI World Cup level.

Entries for all six rounds of Open Racing in the 2024 WHOOP UCI Mountain Bike World Series will open soon.

The WHOOP UCI Mountain Bike World Series is the pinnacle of mountain bike racing and encompasses multiple formats of the sport in its Gravity and Endurance categories.

The UCI Enduro and E-Enduro World Cups are among the most complete challenges a mountain bike racer can face and feature opportunities to race all over the globe. Each racer faces multiple descents across a day, having to pedal themselves to the top of each. They have a set start time for each stage and the shortest cumulative time on the stages wins.

As Mountain Bike has always been a sport built on amateur participation, Open Racing categories are offered alongside both UCI World Cups to give amateur riders the chance to experience some of the world's most spectacular and iconic trails.

In addition to this, the WHOOP UCI Mountain Bike World Series offers a clear pathway to help these athletes live their dreams via Open Racing at their Enduro and E-Enduro events, plus a host of National Championships events across the world. Racing at the Elite level allows riders to put themselves on the big stage and attract the attention of UCI teams and other sponsors to enable them to make the transition to the pro ranks.

There are 25 rounds across 21 different countries where points can be won to earn qualification to the UCI Enduro World Cup level including the following races:

17-19 May 2024 | Enduro of Bielsko-Biala | Bielsko-Biala, POL
The second round of the UCI Enduro and E-Enduro World Cup will be a historic one with the series travelling to eastern Europe for the first time. The Enduro Trails network is one of the most famous in the country and provides seemingly endless tree-lined possibilities. The Polish mountain bike scene is thriving and many are predicting one of the warmest welcomes of the year.

31 July - 04 Aug 2024 | American National Championships | Zirconia, North Carolina, USA
Ride Rock Creek Mountain Bike Park has been announced by USA Cycling. The USA is rapidly becoming one of the biggest hot beds of young talent when it comes to mountain bike racing. Both Endurance and Gravity are booming in the States and the races in Zirconia promise to be amongst the biggest and well-attended on the calendar.

01 December 2024 | Philippine National Championships | Guimaras Island, Iloilo PHI
Known locally as the mango capital of the Philippines, Guimaras is an island situated just south of Ilolio. Guimaras Bike Paradise is one of the most complete, challenging, and stunning trail networks in the area and has already hosted Cross-country Marathon and Enduro National Championships.

Athletes can qualify to enter the UCI Mountain Bike Enduro World Cup by fulfilling any of the following conditions:

Member of an official UCI ENDURO or MIXED Team

Accumulate the minimum required Global Ranking points by the end of 2023 (they will be automatically included in the 2024 Reserved List)

Attained the minimum number of Global Ranking points necessary for upgrading throughout the season

Wildcard application

Further details on criteria for participation in the UCI Enduro World Cup, including wildcard opportunities, are detailed in Chapter one and two of the UCI World Cup Rulebook.

The full UCI Enduro and E-Enduro World Cup Qualifier calendar can be found here. Entries for all six rounds of the WHOOP UCI Mountain Bike World Series offering open racing categories (which are all qualifier events) will open soon.

Spomer,
The link just goes to a list of every nation with an enduro national championship, so qualifying this year is exactly the same as last year.

Pay out the nose for a team, go to europe and win amateur at The World Series or win a national championship.  RIP enduro

Has anyone heard news on a new UCI Enduro World Championship format to replace the trophy of nations?

I always forget I have an avenue to let you know about these things somewhat directly, so while I've remembered: great work on the podcast. Really enjoyed it and felt like I learned a lot about Aaron.

Crankworx Rotorua DH practice day 1 from Ed Bull and Burnerd. Looks a little spooky out there with all the mud.

Jack actually racing the big bike :D.  Wonder if hes gonna make the full switch back to DH now that EDR? is ruined.  Honestly I dont even know what to call it.  The thing that previously was EWS.

Myriam Nicole with skier's/birders thumb.

Snapped her UCL. Had the same surgery.
Thumb Wars will suck from here on out for her, but shouldn't affect racing.

US MTB racing continues to roll into prime season with the Tennessee National's 2 week multi-disciplinary mtb program kicking off this weekend with one of the US's best Endruo races.  We brought the hardest working man in #USDH (at the moment) on the Gravity Co-Op's Hot Seat podcast to get the word out about the Tennessee National and chop it up about National level DH racing and some of his early days racing in the US Scene.  There is only a little overlap with Spomer's amazing Inside Line interview (Gwin Racing stuff at the beginning of the show) and we hit a number of good topics including: All things TN National, US national level racing, National Championship stories from Aaron, Video replay shows, and more...

Aaron is the man for making so much time to speak to the people!  Spotify Link HERE

Nationals are being held at Jacks home track. He would have done tens of thousands of laps, is no slouch on the DH seld so is having a crack because why not.

Wouldn’t be surprised if he does a dh World Cup if he has the points and it doesn’t clash with a EDR.
