Dak was saying on Vital B that there wasn't any courses in North America that can replicate the what the riders experience in Europe. Why is this? Certainly we have the verticality in places like the Rockies and Sierras. Is it just that lift access bike parks don't want to waste the time on trial that will rarely get ridden?
Do the British have World Cup tracks?
Or Australia?
I've never ridden anywhere except the US tracks and Whistler.
Brits have Fort William (Scotland)
Aus has held world cups/champs at both Cairns and Mt Stromlo (Canberra)
Stromlo is a mild hill at best, Cairns it OK but has nothing on Europe.
We also have Bright, Mt Beauty and Thredbo in the Mountains, but never held a world cup. A Thredbo world cup would be pretty epic, but $$$, facilities and arguably not a hard enough track without building something else which there was rumours of.
HARDLINE WILL NOT BE LIVE and now closed to spectators. official statement below
Due to extreme weather conditions in the Dyfi Valley, for the safety of the public, the Red Bull Hardline event on Sunday 16th July will be closed to spectators.
While the event site will be fully closed to the public, we are still hoping to run the Red Bull Hardline finals tomorrow (Sunday) - provided weather conditions allow rider safety. We are closely monitoring the weather conditions in close cooperation with the Red Bull Hardline athletes.
The Red Bull Hardline finals will not be broadcast live tomorrow at 2pm as previously scheduled. Provided course conditions allow, Red Bull Hardline will be available to watch post-race via Red Bull TV and Red Bull Bike YouTube.

Regarding Whistler and WC DH, regardless of how big Crankworx is they need to jump through all the UCI hoops to even apply for a WC level event. This includes hosting regional, provincial, and national level UCI sanctioned events. WBP has been ticking off these boxes over the last number of years.
In June they did a Canada Cup XC so checking off that national box.
If we look at the 2024 calendar there is a slim chance?
UCI MTB WORLD CUP – XCO 21-22.09.2024 Outside Europe
UCI MTB WORLD CUP – DHI 21-22.09.2024 Outside Europe
UCI MTB WORLD CUP – EDR 28-29.09.2024 Outside Europe
UCI MTB WORLD CUP – DHI 28-29.09.2024 Outside Europe
UCI MTB WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS – XCM 28-29.09.2024 Snowshoe (USA)
UCI MTB WORLD CUP – XCO 05-06.10.2024 Outside Europe
UCI MTB WORLD CUP – DHI 05-06.10.2024 Outside Europe
Whistler then Snowshoe then MSA?
I'm pretty sure it will be Bromont, Snowshoe, MSA. The travel time is too short to get rigs from the west coast to the east in time to set up. Also, Bromont has been putting in an epic amount of work this summer building new stuff and working on old stuff.

Bromont is the best little mountain! Do you know if they are interested in a WC? It's been a while since they have hosted one.

Agreed!
my buddy and I were sleuthing the other day when we saw the schedule dates and it all lined up to three east coast venues at the end, not Whistler then the final two east coast. It’s possible but not probable. Bromont was the most logical conclusion
"Having monitored course conditions in collaboration with the riders to provide the best possible chance of putting on a safe event, due to the extreme weather conditions in the Dyfi valley the decision has been made to cancel Red Bull Hardline to ensure the safety of the riders."
Bummer they had to cancel Hardline, but it seems like the right call.
I may be in the minority and it's probably not feasible but, I'd like to see more technical terrain for Hardline, even if it's an alternate track. The jumps all basically have to be hit at the same speed so they don't separate the rider times. As a race it's won or lost in the technical sections, so give us more sections like that which are not so weather dependent.
Richie Rude no longer has the Stars and Stripes jersey! Asa Vermette took the title at the age of 16!!! This kid is gonna be insane! He doesn’t even race enduro as his primary discipline!

Didn't the kid just win a BME in Durango as well? Granted, I think those were his home trails, but, an impressive recent run of enduro results.
Anyone know the legit timing issues with the National Champs enduro? heard the last stage the timing broke and the 'backup' which might have been just wrist watches wasn't even optimal, throw in the fact that Richie lost by fraction of a second, has to be hard for Richie to swallow-but He has DH today right?

Yes, they both have downhill today. I think Asa qualified first, downhill is his focus.
He got 3rd at the US Open last year and won a DHSE race by two seconds, Aaron Gwin was second.
national champs downhill looks like it's underway, timing link (not live, but updates w/ refresh...the "sunday" pulldown at the top of the page if it doesn't directly land there) - https://my.raceresult.com/253104/#0_717CD6
if these are indeed times from today, looks like asa won his class w/ a 2:11, ryder lawrence in 2nd w/ a 2:15
pinkerton won jr w/ a 2:06, medcalf 2nd w/ 2:08
anna newkirk takes women's victory with 2:25, kailey skelton 2nd with 2:29
luca shaw wins men's with a 2:05 (the 2:07 is his seeding time)
It's too bad Hardline had to be canceled, but I am thankful for the entertainment provided by the rider made content.
Why is it that Hardline escapes all the safety criticisms from the riders that the Work Cup events receive? Not one tree pad in site. No safety netting. B-Zone is typically instant death from top to bottom. And the speeds have to be utterly insane to clear those gaps.

Hardline is somewhat invite only is it not? Or at least choice riders. No Jr racers and not a couple hundred people on track, and you know what your signing up for with hardline, kind of like Rampage which also has death at every corner.
World cup has Jr racers, hundreds of people on track over the weekend and less time to pick apart and practice so shouldn't they be held to a higher standard of safety and course design? It's the top tier of the sport and it should be treated as such.
Going back a few years, would Brook have laid on the side of the track for hours at hardline? I bet they'd have had him stabilized and out of there ASAP because they have staff on hand ready to go.
Bernard Kerr is TEAM ROBOT's consensus 2023 Hardline World Champion for being the first (and only?) one to do a full practice run in those windy and wet conditions, including both 90 foot gaps. Give him the gold medal.

I think they canceled the race to save BK's life. Did you hear the wind gusts at the top before he dropped in? Anyone who's jonesing so hard to win that they'll hit a 90 foot gap in a 20 mph cross wind (and then does it, successfully) deserves their medal.

Yep, Asa won the Purg BME on a new Frameworks enduro rig he put together two days before the race.
And now he is double national champ with his age group DH win. The kid has skills.

I’ll be surprise if they pull it off. Track is going to be really soft judging by the videos of the rain today that riders are posting

I’m just gutted for Jess for this but at least she’s going to be ok, eventually. I hope it’s not bad enough to sideline the season for her.
Any seeding results available for USA national champs?
Jess is tough as they come. She’ll be back soon. Witnessed her snowshoe crash in person. If I had a hugey like that I’d probably put the bike down.

BK absolutely SENDING it in the wet.
Dudes were riding around everything and he just goes for it.
Thanks for the link!

that was so awesome! riders scrambling to get off lips, he's passing riders! GNARLY!
This is hands down one of the most insane POVs I've ever seen.
Canadian nationals under way. Looks like Finn isn't racing.
