Lonnnnng time lurker and fan of Vital.
Used to rabidly follow the World Cup slideshows when they were a thing, and I watch pretty much every Raw on YouTube these days. Mainly used PB for the buy and sell and skimming news. Always came here for the real scoop. Spomer, can we get "ADVICE" with Charlie going again? I was over the moon when that series got announced, seems it kinda faded out.
when and only when @TayRob returns to the internet shit talk levels he was once at (re: twenty niners) will any requests for content be entertained.
Mr. McDonald, is that you?
The shit talking is alive and well, but it's mainly projected at co-workers and is usually a word salad aginst E-bikes or frames with anything steeper than a 64 degree head angle and cute little sub 440mm chsinstays.
And I'll have you know as a 33 year old home owner/father, both my bikes are proudly 29 front and rear these days. I shoulda listened to you years ago.

Here are some of my wish list items:
- compact layout
- deep threading
- ability to collapse threads
- single page (either load all, load on scroll, or "view" more that then populates on-page)
- upvote/downvote count affects sort order
- indication of new comments since last visit
What do you mean by "deep threading"? We currently support something like 4-5 levels of replying to replies.

And out of curiosity, what would be the order of importance for you of those items you listed? From must-have to would-be-nice.
Sorry, I was confusing the forums with the comments, so correcting my wish list for comments:
- layout is already reasonably compact
- deep threading is all set, if there's 4-5 levels
- collapsing threads would be nice, but not really necessary until there are a *lot* of comments
- single page is already the case
that leaves these two as priorities:
- upvote/downvote count affects sort order
- indication of new comments since last visit

"upvote/downvote count affects sort order" Please never.
Just adds to the mob / popularity rule that ruins all social media. Why bother to sift through the bottom 90 of 100 comments (On Vital? That might not be the record but it would be close.), there not "popular".

I'm thinking of a future where Vital comments have a lot more posts. I hear ya on the mob/popularity downside.
Maybe just leave the comments as-is, and figure out pain points when/if the number of comments increases significantly.
Agree with Bracken fwiw on comments for the most part. Have been Vital member for some time but rarely post as the comment section seems clunky and barren. 2 biggest standouts that would increase my usage:
1 - single page load (all comments with the article)
2 - compact design, easy to scroll all and reply
Content is/has always been great, no change needed. There’s a huge number of PB users miffed at this first news. Wait til the pay structure comes in, and that group with the gripe will actively be looking to jump ship. Opportunities…
He returned recently and then disappeared again I think. I thought I missed him... until he returned, which is funny in hindsight.
The pathetic thing was removing him to begin with. While Waki was, well, wacky, it is not too hard to just ignore someone and not read their content....but, some folks insist on being victims.

I prefer to help out “victims” then cater to assholes

Hello Vital! I was not a registered member and only clicked on your site once or twice per week, but that has all changed......... The Party's heeeere!!!

I think this will be a good place to put it, will also put it on the PB forum, I'm thinking of making a video about some of the best Pinkbike commenters of all time (think Waki, DCA, MattP76). I was wondering if anyone has any other good shouts. Commenters that you see all the time, usually with something interesting or funny to say.

What this site really needs in terms of structure is a "dashboard" like pinkbike has. A place where all your recent activity and reactions to it are highlighted so you can quickly see what happened while you were away.
It´s the only thing holding me back from participating more on vital. I just can´t be bothered to check all the different sections seperately. Give us quick access to all our current favourite topics and user engagement will skyrocket.

So I'm assuming there is no way to subscribe to forums?
Since we're on the topic of possible improvements anyway, if possible, I think it'd be nice to be able to have multiple quotes in a single post to avoid double/triple quoting. And a PM dashboard. And as mentioned, a single e-mail notification for the first new post witht he next e-mail delivered after you have checked the thread. I had 60 forum notification e-mails when I came from work today
