that's cool. late last year / early this year I was searching for a new (first) mtb for my 6 year old son (side note: wound up with a Giant STP 24 for him. yes, my 6 y/o is already on 24" wheels. he's a tall kid like I was) one thing that really stood out to me is that kids bikes jump from 24" straight to 27.5" for almost all brands (giant is the only one I remember). i still have a few 26" mtbs, and at this point I'm holding on to them for when my kid is large enough (also so I don't have to drop a few grand for him to have a f/s mtb).
Mine it the opposite, slow grower, just turned 11 and 24 is still perfect, he's been on it since 2019. Now it's time to start the transition to bigger wheels. We have old 26 bikes and small 27.5's that we can put 26. Just did a Bham trip and kids smaller than him are on xs 27.5 scouts. The thing about smaller wheels though is it's been good for learning how to work for your speed. He's not big on pedaling up or down and loves steep tech and big air (and chairlifts).
This is the most beautiful reaction I've seen from any company in the years of snooping that's happened here or PB. Bravo Chromag

Chromag is still the epitome of a core MTB brand. They've never sold out and made crap just to make $$$. Everything they build is calculated, great performance and long lasting. They still close their office every Friday,Sat,Sun so their employees can ride and only work 4 days.

Anyone seen, heard or tried the zipp 3zero on a downhill bike?
Closest thing I saw to it being used for Dh was on a yeti sb165 with a boxxer and coil shock. Can’t remember the guy’s name but he does YouTube. The rims are not intended or guaranteed for DH use but I suppose you’re not shredding down Val Di Sole at Amaury Pierron speed every weekend so I reckon you’ll be fine if you don’t do anything too crazy.

Isabeau Courdurier has a lapierre dh bike with a set. And Nate hills has a SB165 built up with some as well but both of them are on the lighter side. If you're above 170 I think it's probably a bad idea at least for the rear. I have some on a Trek Slash and they are fantastic but if you push really hard in the corners they can get a little squirrely. For the front I don't think there would be a problem. That guy with the phoenix 29 seems to have a set up that would work.
Something I haven't experimented with yet is different spokes. in theory running straight gauge spokes would stiffen up the ride a little bit. However the wheels are so soft anyways that I don't know if it would make a big difference. Mine are built with Sapim CXRay spokes and I have some
straight 2.0 that are cut to length to try in the rear. I haven't felt like relacng my wheel to give it a go.

Can somebody with some decent photoshop skills and some time on their hands please build a fake rumour and we will see if Pinkbike bites? I'd expect some sort of snarky comment like "it's pretty easy to type SRAMLLC into a search line" when they're caught...but it's like clockwork that something shows up here and then has a full story a day or two later.

Could it be so that PB people actually read the the same stuff as, people in this thread? Or have similar sources? Hmm. Maaaybe people in this thread aren't actually unique and the only folks with conacts? And some of the rumors are actually not very techy nor interesting at all. "new colors released" wow. Painters buy another color. Let's see some actual tech rumors. Dorado was really interesting. Why the hate for PB?
Oh, I get it. It's just funny. Like Wheelbased said - there's hundreds of patents that you could write about. Why does Pinkbike only write about the same ones as Wheelbased, and always after the fact? How is it the same thing with bicycle rumours that everything they post has already shown up here? If I were the largest media company in all of cycling, I would make it a point to do things better than everybody else, and not just post an Instagram screen cap, or somebody else's shitty, blurry photo. I mean, if you're going to do it right, at least TMZ it. Offer a bounty for exclusive photos.

Yea I have seen adrien dailly using them on both his spicy that was converted to a dh bike for the French cup and on his older gen lappiere Dh bike but I wonder how many rims he goes through amd if they do run different gauge spokes to change the stiffness and even how the comply with the superboost hubs?
Specialized coming out with their own lightweight full face helmet? Doesn’t look like a proframe, a leatt or a smith mainline but idk if this is something else I forgot about.
If so I saw one in the lift line at Mammoth on Friday; didn't get a chance to ask her about it but it looked brand-spanking new and she was wearing very casual gear (running shoes and shorts, half lid).
Do we still care about the Spesh Status?

Doubt it, it's been released for a while now, although near impossible to get hold of

Cool bike but geo is too unbalanced for big sizes imo

I know more than 1 person that sold it within a month of getting it......

I did consider getting one but some of the reviews put me off saying it's unbalanced and more of a play/jib bike when I wanted more of an enduro bike. Also seen a few people complain that it's terrible at pedaling, maybe low anti-squat, I'm not really sure. Still is a lot of bike for the money
Wasn't the current enduro one of the first Specialized bikes with a properly sorted antisquat values? That all other bikes before it bobbed like crazy?

They have been out for a while now. I rode my buddies at whitefish and saw several more also. They were doing some thing where only certain spesh dealers were getting to sell them under some "flagship store" stuff.
It seemed pretty normal. Nothing to write home about, but I'm also on a bike with nearly identical geo but full 27.5. The mullet I think is a pretty good idea more so for the big wheel up front than the small wheel in the back. I'm not convinced that the whole small wheel in back thing makes as large of a difference as people claim as far as cornering/maneuverability goes. I'm not against it, but just think the whole mullet thing is a little sensationalized at the moment.

I think it really depends on height/riding style. I think the advantages of the bigger wheel is obvious for traction going downhill and carrying speed when the trail flattens out. It’s just a matter if you are big enough to ride a bike how you want with them. Then even if size isn’t an issue some guys are just going to want the playfulness of the smaller wheel knowing the trade offs.’
I notice in enduro it seems mostly the taller guys are on relatively short 29s for their size and the average to shorter guys are on not extreme but slightly longer mullets. Also seems some guys will switch to a full 29 if they don’t think the grade of course is steep enough. Full 29er is definitely more common for the only one bike crowd including the pro ranks for all size people.
In downhill it seems all over the map. A lot of the women are full 29 which would be unconventional if it was purely about height. I think 29 fits
Greg’s riding style as much as his height fits the bike. It’s kind of like a chicken and egg scenario with how well that new v10 has been working for him last 5 years or so.

Most Spesh bikes on Horst link, while great at following the ground pedaled pretty poorly. The Epic (their XC dually) needed the 'brain' to pedal well.
The '20 E29 does have very high AS and the SJ Evo '21 has pretty high AS (not as high as the E29).
So I'd say your assessment is accurate.
To be honest this is what I've been told, never been on a Specialized bike (tested a Turbo Levo SL for about 2 hours, that's the longest duration of riding a Spec).

To defend them, or play devils advocate, or whatever, there is a ton of stuff they can't report on because of brand embargoes. If they breach that trust they lose access. However, they can report on something someone else is reporting/posting on, so it can look like they are just following what others are doing.
Exactly, once you're under embargo, it's lips closed. But up to that point, it's free game. Tech (PC hardware, mobile phones and the like) and automotive industries deal with rumors and spyshots (automotive mostly, there aren't many spyshots of new graphics cards :D ) all the time. Even the large publications and even regarding companies, where it could be an 'issue' with the support and relationship.
Most of the big (at least tech) guys say that they are big enough where they could either buy the product in question and make a review of it, but in reality the offended manufacturer also couldn't afford not to seed the products to the publication because of the lack of exposure to the potential customers if they did that.
Yeah, having the Range (in DH mode to boot) prototype all over the internet last year was less than ideal for Norco, but it's their problem, they brought it outside, they brought it to the races, they should expect for it to be posted all over the internet.
If you don't want that, find a place in the world where there aren't hundreds of technically savvy mountain bikers around, where you can test in peace (*cough*Slovenia*cough*).
Would like to see more grom content on Vital.
She can really fly on that bike too. On a XC loop I'd put her up against any casual adult trail rider.

This probably applies less to patents though
