Magura's new four-piston mountain bike disc brakes (left) were inspired by brakes they already make for use in motorsports (right). Interestingly, the brakes use four brake pads per caliper. Magura says the heat at the end of a brake pad is always the worst, so by switching to four pads and leaving a small gap between them on each side they are able to improve braking performance as the rotor has a chance to cool slightly before entering the second set of pads. The pads are offset (off center) from the pistons to provide even pad wear. All pistons are the same size.
The brakes are intended for all-mountain to DH use. They're in production now and should be available this Fall.
