Anyone tried the new wrangler from goodyear? Tempted to try a set in the e-bike casing. They do look really good compared to the previous offerings from goodyear

We recently had some DHR II DH MaxxTerra tires pop up in our local bike shops. They seem to be targeted at e-bikes (E50 logo on the side), but I put one on the rear of my enduro bike and so far am very pleased. The ride feel is great, and they still look new after multiple rides and a big bike park day; I know it’s allegedly the same tread material as the DD version, but the wear really does seem slower. My biggest issue with the DD version has always been that the carcass gets flimsy toward the end of its life, and I’m hoping the DH casing will hold up longer.

I actually have the same one on my ebike and you are probably right. It lasted a good half a year so far so I imagine on normal bike will perform quite well!

I have a set arriving this Friday as well and am pretty stoked on trying them.

Problem is that I had just mounted a brand-new set of Mazza's F & R a day before these were announced, so it's going to be a couple of months before I try them out.

You know you can un-mount the Mazzas and put the Radials on. Probably a <20 minute job.

Some people invest in their 401Ks, but I like to keep my money tied up in 1/3 used dry rotted tires in the garage.

Really trying to buy fewer tires so I'm going to run the Mazzas until they are worn a fair bit but still fresh enough for a solid back-to-back comparison to the Alberts, which tracking shows are arriving today actually.

Once I remove an old tire, if I find something better, they will never go back on and will be wasted money. Usually mounting a new tire is just an experiment (the E13 Grappler was going to be next experiment before I spotted the Alberts) and I'm pretty likely to go back to my previous. However, I suspect these Alberts are going to be exactly what I've been searching for in my dry and very loose terrain.

Have yet to try the Contis but very curious. Grip sounds great.

How about weight and rolling resistance for trail riding?

Kryptotal rear rolls pretty slow. I like the Xynotal better in back.

Anyone else on Specialized Butcher/Eliminator tires and experiencing multiple side lugs ripping off after 50-100 miles of use? Love the combo for my trails, but this has happened to me recently with their T9 and T7 compounds.  Their GC in T7 have been rock solid. Previouly on Maxxis tires and did not have this issue.

I’ve gotten great wear out of mine.  Here is a eliminator T9- been on the front of my bike for 3-4 months.  Knobs are wearing, not tearing off.  Going to last as long as 2x aggressors on the back.

Been running this with a DD aggressor 2.3 on the back. Mostly happy with those - good wear, fast rolling, light enough.  Have flatted a few and they are super square profile but as a rear don’t really feel it

Dave have you tried an Eliminator in gravity casing on the rear? I’ve been trying one in back in the t7/t9 rubber based on your Specialized tire recommendation and so far it’s been sweet! Maybe not as supple as a Maxxis DD casing, or maybe my psi’s could come down.

Someone else mentioned this, but it does feel like possibly a better-implemented aggressor or dissector for fast rolling / good grip balance.

Haven’t had any knobs rip off, but only had it on a few weeks.

Is anybody else dying for an xc style tread with a double down level casing or is that too niche? I have one bike with two wheel sets, one for bike park and rough trails and one for long days on the bike, but where I live in AZ the trails are really rough but rolling speed is crucial to survive being out there for 40-60 mile rides. So I'd love a fast rolling xc tire that is extra dependable in the back country. Like a Rekon Double Down or something.

Hey @ricksticks and others that want this kind of tire... Is a 2.40 width what you'd be looking for? We've had similar requests for a fast rolling tread pattern with firmer rubber and a durable casing, but for e-bikes. The feedback we've gotten there is that a 2.60 would be better for the eebz.

And yes, we did DD Ikons for a short time but we sold like 6 of them. The Minion SS was discontinued a while back. That was a good option but the sizing was a bit off. The 2.30 had a good profile but is narrower than what people want now. The 2.50 was too square, and isn't a popular width for tires that are usually going on the back of a bike. There are a handful of 27.5x2.30 and 29x2.30 EXO versions left on our e-store, after that, they gone.

Great discussion in here!

I would personally like 2.4 but I can live with 2.6 if I had to. I hope that as short travel bikes become cool again there will be more demand for something like an Ikon DD in a 2.4. Hopefully the ebike guys are looking for something that'll give them maximum range over grip because I can imagine the outcome would work good both ways!

Another vote for 2.4.

Yes that was my first specialized tire and got me to buy more… agree with all points- in the same category as dissector or aggressor and nicely durable

Would love to run into this.  I had been looking around for my e-bike for a tire that has a DH casing and harder compound.  I am known to ride 9-10 miles of road to get to my trails and then ride back after a ride (one benefit of the e-bike).  I am a Maxxis person but all their DH tires have MaxxGrip and that wouldn't last a day on the road.   I have been using DD MaxxTerra and the road ride eats them up quickly, like 300 miles for the rear,  and a beefier sidewall would be more ideal too.

I just picked up a set of ethirteen Grappler tires in the "endurance" compound with a DH casing.  The tires are actually not too bad as far as grip, I am not expecting the world but I only have 3 rides on them and they are holding up really well.  I did ride in some humid wet conditions and again I didn't expect much but if they hold up long term I may stick with them, price isn't bad either.

For my mountain bike I will stick with DHR/DHF combo.  I have 2 wheelsets, one with DD DHR in the back and EXO+ up front for trail riding and another set with the DH version for park/race weekends.  Told the wife I would try to only have one bike, so 2 wheelsets solved that issue and the e-bike isn't really a bike so I win that argument too.  Oh, the Fat bike is really stupid and for winter only so that doesn't count either.

What did someone say about a 401k earlier???  Not sure what that is???

Another good option for the eeb is our "park spec" DHR (TB00368500 is the 29x2.40). It has a wire bead so is a lil heavier, but it's a DH casing, tubeless ready, and a longer wearing compound.

I'm running this tire (Maxxis TB00368500) on the back of my Megatower and loving it. Fast rolling, long wearing, durable casing, and decent grip and damping. Would still switch out to a MaxxGrip tire for an actual downhill race, but for everything else it's the bees knees.

Anyway you will be making this tire in 27.5 since most DH bikes are MX now?
