Ah basically says Bienvenido didn't do well cos Rampage isn't about tricks, its about risk and exposure. And Brendog didn't do well cos its isn't about risk and exposure, he needs to do tricks.
Brendan just cleared up his view on Oli's channel. He's happy with his run. Understands why he didn't win. He clearly states why the guys who did like 5 practice laps didn't win. He Thinks he should have been a bit higher but also admits he fell pretty hard on a practice jump in the morning and left one trick out at the end. If he had spiced up his upper line a bit he could have podiumed but since it was his first and only run with tricks. He didn't want to. He also said he didn't want to do a 2nd run because he wasn't feeling well after his crash in the morning.
There you go. Guys with smoothed out lines and who could hit them over and over again didn't score as high as guys who threw down.
My disagreements with the judging this year weren't necessarily about the winner but about the other rankings. IMHO, Tom Van Steenbergen was over-scored. Looking down the list, we've got Kyle Strait placing higher than Bienvenido. Bienve's front flip was one of the wildest things I've ever seen, whereas Kyle's run was a cool comeback but didn't include anything we haven't seen him do before. And why was Sorge ranked above Jaxson Riddle? Jaxson's run might not have had a single show-stopping moment like the very top riders but at least he was throwing in tricks all the way down, while Sorge just kinda did the same whip on every drop/jump. I also thought Reed Boggs was under-scored.
But... we could debate the ranking order all day. Finals were still full of riding that made me say, "No fuckin' way." So that's cool.

With respect to your last line, in the ODub video they are being very humble and nice about other riders etc but they do specifically mention "riders #2 and #3 did a train down the mountain for fun, most riders lines are too scary to do that". If TVS can hit Storch's chute blind, should it be scored that high?
Just adding fuel to the fire, but I'm kinda over it, the riding was great, coverage was great, Brendog doesn't seem that pissed, Bienve got more awards than he could hold up at once. Let's just move on...

Given how many people complained, gave their opinion, and questioned their decision, doesn't it make sense for them to give a thorough reply?
My take is Zink won, Brendog 2nd, Tom 3rd, Carson 4th. But I was not there to walk the lines this year.
Almost all of the judges have competed at Rampage at least once. Claw understands the dynamics and challenges of Rampage lines as well as any of those competing. He is also one of the most reputable freeriders in the scene and has the respect of probably all of the competing riders. Is judging ever going to be perfect? Probably not but given that these are career riders who have all gone through judged contests themselves, I am going to tend to give them the benefit of a doubt. It is not as simple as a stopwatch.

It’s not the first time rampage results have caused backlash against the judges. I dislike the judging component of all types of events that are judged by a select few people, even if they are industry legends. It’s biologically impossible for humans to completely remove bias. The other site posted a poll, and it wasn’t even close. Brendog won that community vote by a landslide.
Not to resuscitate a dead horse: but Olly Wilkins weighed in on the Battleship "controversy" on the most recent Ride Companion. To paraphrase: biggest kook move ever. The rider knows it was a kook move. He believes anyone who rides or digs at Rampage would say the same, but it's the world we live in now.
hey at least that poacher didn't "just roll it" as those frog ass British kids like to say, poaching another riders dig (kong).
It was their way of further trying to remind people 'Bren should have won' when this video dropped.
BF lives and dies mtb. we can all say this much
Cam Mccaul had a pretty legit take on the whole matter. . .how corked that backflip was (Zink*) off his flip drop. Watch it again. Dude was on the razor edge of being sideways approaching the takeoff of the flip. It's like he was crashing through mid air for a split mill second.
bad judging based off other riders placements, clearly a mess.
More Dylan Stark, please. Bring back frame slides at rampage, fuck it. Natural wooden features count
*dude's currently in Hawaii dropping off what seems to be hundreds of bikes, possibly thousand, to local schools where the Hawaii 'natural' wild fires happened, Zink is the peoples champ too. why not
One thing I'd be interested to know is if he was always 100% in agreement with the way his own runs were scored when he was competing?
