It's not only in the US. Just look at Champery. They have a legendary venue, put all their effort into having a World Champs there, then it died as a World Cup place to be. Why? Too expensive. So we are left with memories. I remember being there in 2011 and it was flooded with many thousands of tourists, they literally had nowhere to go, nevermind how expensive Switzerland is.

On the other hand, we have Leogang, one of the most popular bikeparks in Europe. At the 2012 Worlds I talked to somebody who worked on the event and said that they got serious money, multiple millions, only from the Salzburg state/county and that was but one of many sources of funding. Point is, if you are too small and can't turn your image into some revenue, you probably can't afford hosting a World Cup. Although I am very sure it is very very different for each of the places we grew accustomed to have World Cups in...

2011 was the old frecaster days. Redbull was in control while the cost or holding a world cup increased. Cant blame the ESO/Disco for Champery not biding.

As the Valais region in Switzerland is hosting the mega UCI worlds in 2025, there's a possibility that Champery will be the DH venue, which would be awesome.

Genuine question: do we know why snowshoe is not on the calendar this year? Is it a decision from snowshoe or from UCI or ...?

Snowshoe gave it all they had to be back on the calendar for a DHI and XC round in 2024.

The Snowshoe staff that manage the world cup event are MTB superfans and beyond bummed they couldn't get the WC back.  I heard desire from Snowshoe to go big with DHSE or another major MTB event in 2024 if they weren't able to get the world cup in 2024. Cool

Champéry DH track is confirmed for World Champs 2025 (it will also host an IXS DH Cup in 2024).

Trail builders helped by swiss army have already rebuilt some parts of the lower section + created  pedestrian access for the spectators.

I have mixed feelings about it, but I wish the Walton’s would get interested in gravity like they are with XC and gravel. Someone needs to basically create the Lifetime enduro or Donwhill (maybe alter the format to make it its own thing). I guess Crankworx is kind of doing it, but it would be nice for it to be all in the US.

They could throw some money at an actual lift at WindRock Bike Park just as long as Sean retains ownership.
Run it further up the mountain than the current peak & that would be the mega-park.

Coal Creek OHV wouldn't mind in the slightest.

That would be really nice for sure. The rumor is that this is the project they're currently eyeing to bring in World Champs in the future. 5 lifts proposed.

Will they host masters worlds beforehand?  I’ll buy a DH bike and plane ticket today if that’s the case.

Always dreamed about tomahawking myself down that track.

not sure if I read it here or if someone told me at Snowshoe, but someone said something about it having to do with hosting the 2024 Marathon World's and wanting to give them center stage? Which could leave it open for a return to the WC tour in 2025? Hopefully? I'd love to here Loris bitch about east coast riding some more.

Not accurate. Plus none of the teams like going there and the track is sub par at best. Lodging was twice as expensive as Lenzerheide which was ridiculous because the rental houses are really run down.

I don't get the hate for Snowshoe, it was one of my favorite tracks to watch this year except for MSA. I get that it is flat compared to europe, but I thought it was quite exciting and looked like a blast to ride. Disappointed it is not there next year as I was considering going after falling in love with downhill racing this year.

I like the racing at snowshoe it’s not super steep but still makes for great racing.

I can’t remember for sure but I think 3 years ago fees where around 300k to put on an event and I’m sure they have gone up from there.

Does 300k include the necessary bribes?

How did they fix the issue with the land ownership after the bottom road intersection?  The one where the currently rideable track ends.

I take it it will still be inaccessible for us mere mortals who arent keen on racing IXS cups?

Odd how all the team’s videos I saw had nothing but good things to say.

XCO -> Crans Montana

Enduro -> Aletscharena

DH -> these are all venues for the 2025 world champs? Is Haute Savoie definitely Les Gets as the DH Venue? Champery is literally across the other side of Avoriaz.

Come race European Champs next year!  I think you should build another DH bike though.

Morgins, les crosets and Champery is part of dents du midi, but still belongs to Portes Du Soleil. Yes Champery belongs to Switzerland, but would love to see the WC there…

Chatel has unfortunately no DH Race track and to create a new one for one year and World champs next year in Champery highly unlikely.

Could maybe tie in with the whole thing around the potential red bull race series, considering dans hardline/dyfi bike park building experience

That's because some people struggle to understand its "world" cup which should feature tracks, terrains, and riding styles from around the world. Every track shouldn't be your favorite. It should be a challenge to adapt. They are pros.

I personally can't relate to the big alpine tracks. I grew up riding east coast rocks and roots.

Imagine there exists a webpage about 2025 WC with all the available information, like that DH will be indeed raced in Champery.  Home - EN (valais2025.ch)

I'm also interested in how they solved the problem in the lower part of the track and if it will be now completely rideable during the summer season because that road is not really fantastic. Also loved they got the army to dig the track Smile

Maybe that is why I liked it so much, it is more relatable. I did not really grow up riding that terrain, but it is the terrain I am drawn to.
