Is this implying he snuck his GoPro onto a run he wasn't supposed to so they DSQ'ed him or something?
Watched K.Edwards on WynTV say it himself: sponsorship dispute meant he couldn’t enter. What could that even mean? Can’t imagine. Insurance related or something? Super weird.
Kolb finding out he wouldn’t be on the Overall podium because said podium was now only top three was pure ESO…unsurprising, a bummer though.
I think he’s right, too, that they’ll go with their initial 30 rider final and top 3 podiums next year.

Well...that's disappointing. Only because it's vague as can be...
I thought that the 5 place podium thing came from a 90's XC world cup race in Australia. The organisers wanted to get their young up and coming rider, Cadel, on a step and it's been so ever since.

Correct.
It all started in July, 1994, when Cairns, Australia, hosted a World Cup series race. On that day fresh-faced 17-year-old Cadel Evans of Australia was racing his first World Cup event (Jnr's raced with Elite back in the day), using it as preparation for the junior world championships the next month. Roaring home in fifth position in a remarkable performance for such a young rider was Evans. Race organisers, keen to boost mountain biking in Australia, asked the then UCI president who was at the event “if they could have five riders on the podium … because he was Australian and a junior”.
The 5 person podium has been there ever since, teams like it as it give two more riders exposure to the media from the podium shot.
Red Bull TV started to do a 3 person podium straight after the race for the telecast a few seasons ago, while the official podiums which took place after the telecast or after most viewers switched off still had 5 riders.
Yer I see the points made but there is no pont in a five podium. Any other sport it doesn’t exist WB are putting mtb up against main stream sport on a Saturday and Sunday afternoon it’s a big ask but for the sport to grow it needs to align with other sports
how poor did Xc look with riders getting off and walking / running. Doesn’t make it look a great TV spectacle.
close racing in dh does, with riders on the same .*** of a second and then being the top three for a podium.
big times gaps aren’t appealing 1-5 positions on the women’s race 20 second different not exactly close racing
I have never and will never understand the idea that close times make for better DH racing. Personally, I way prefer when there are big gaps, it shows the winner had more commitment or better lines. Tight racing only makes sense to me if people are going head to head (XC/mega-avalanche etc).

Ever watched or seen the massive crowds at a Cyclocross race? Up to 60,000 on course watching in European cities and millions watching on TV. Riders getting off and running a part of the deal.
The 3 person podium tradition all of you keep yapping about is dumb. Other sports are other sports.
We are not mainstream.
We are fringe.
5 man podium should stay the standard
We should always tread a different path than "other" sports.
5 man podium provides a niche sport exposure & opportunity for at least a little income
F1 arguments should all go watch F1 & leave my sport out of your lame "MIMIC THIS SPORT" debates
Changing to a 3 podium does NOTHING to enhance the racers lives.
Same as cutting the field down to 30 does NOTHING to enhance the sport.
World Cup Racing should bring the sport to more continents & we need less bitching about DH courses.
South Africa...beat me on your 29er enduro...good on you.
Chile....lose your bike in customs but podium on a distributor bike...good on you
Australia...beat dudes on Enduro bikes for a World Championship on your full DH sled...good on you.

My guess is it's related to tires. TFR is sponsored by Pirelli but it's pretty obvious they only have them on for photoshoots and run other tires sharpied out. Pictures from MSA showed Kade openly running Bontrager tires with no sharpie.

I think it's pretty obvious by now that the whole Trek dh team (the xc team actually used them*) never actually rode pirelli tires, this year, even under contractual obligations...
I think the 5 person podium, while getting two more rides some face time, also allows for the podium to have a bit more action. 5 people spraying champagne looks way more rad than 3. To me that alone should be a reason to keep it, better for the viewers.

It's far more simple than that.
Riding the DH track with no pads, wearing a pisspot helmet and no number plate. Pick any of these for getting a slap on the wrist from the management. Pick all three and jackpot!

I can certainly see this being the case but also I feel he would of called out UCI instead of throwing a unnamed sponsor under the bus. As far as tires go no other Pirelli rider is running them in the race runs either always blacked out tires.
I think it might actually be the fact he was wearing a Fox helmet in practice instead of the 100% helmet (who is a team sponsor) he has been running even as recent as Snowshoe. I would think a company like Fox would vet a riders existing contracts before signing a sponsorship deal but who knows maybe they had a contract in place for after he retires from the team but jumped the gun wearing it.
just posted interviews from MSA and some interesting things said in there. danny says he hasn't signed a contract yet, jordi says FOX is a big company and their budget is made. calendar specifics are unknown and if he needs more money to race, that may be difficult, wyn mentions spending time in USA, gwin mentions things announced in the next month or so. good stuff from the ground.
Kade apparently banned from quali due to contractual obligations - mentioned in the other sites YT analysis video but no further detail, anyone know any more?
Is this implying he snuck his GoPro onto a run he wasn't supposed to so they DSQ'ed him or something?
I guess this goes here: just heard that the UCI is only broadcasting the men's World Gravel Champs race, women get nada...
You can use a GoPro in training so that wouldn’t DQ him for the quail’s. He DNS’d the quali so it would be something else.
Yeah, it's complete BS IMHO.
I'm having a hard time understanding what banned from qualifying due to contractual obligations means?
I’m guessing a joke that either didn’t hit or doesn’t make sense. Hoping for doesn’t make sense because I don’t get it.

Name another sport that has a top five podium?
5 podium is a joke. It’s gold silver bronze
may as well have everyone as a winner and give them a medal like in kindergarten
this is the last year with top5 podiums at a race round.
I’m sure they tried a 3 person podium back in 12/13 maybe? I think it was reverted back to the 5 person after a race or two.

The point is that the 5 person podium is only there because the Australian federation wanted to grandstand a junior rider back in the day.
Returning it to the 3 increases the prestige of being on a step and makes it a bit less of a medal handout.

Could be right there, if that was filmed before the quallys he'd be on the naughty step alright.

There's a marshall in the background as Kade goes by.
On a Trek.
Rocking a RedBull helmet.
None of that stuff would his sponsors be terribly livid about you'd think? Enough to eliminate their most filmed rider from the event.
I'm just gonna assume UCI DSQ'ed (disqualified) him for being on track illegally & Trek simply refused to appeal knowing it useless to do so.
I can certainly see this being the case but also I feel he would of called out UCI instead of throwing a unnamed sponsor under the bus. As far as tires go no other Pirelli rider is running them in the race runs either always blacked out tires.
