Nothing is available in a harder compound DH sidewall 27.5 from Maxxis, and the TB96800100 29" tire is as rare as rocking horse shit. I know it's kind of a niche product, but I also think Maxxis knows that Maxxgrip tires get replaced more often and they're not in a hurry to make our tires more durable.
BTW, responding to MetaDave, I've definitely punched holes in the top of tires and pinchflatted the sidewalls, but my biggest "tire problem" has been denting rims. A lot of my flats throughout the years have been a total wheel destruction by hitting a rock through a tubeless tire. There have also been plenty of times I've dented the rim without flatting the tire, so I'll have an older rear wheel that's an inch out of true and looks like a stop sign but still holds air tubeless. That's all with EXO tires or DH tires, although much less often with DH tires. I've never punched a hole in the center tread of a Maxxis DH tire, though. I haven't had any flats since switching to Cushcore, but I did still manage to dent a rear wheel to death over the last two years.
I've been looking for that too- only ever found one of those DHF's with DH casing and dual rubber compound. Agree with TR- don't think Maxxis cares to make DH casings with anything other than Maxxgrip.
Aggressor 2.5 with DH casing would be ideal rear tire for me (same old Dual compound rubber).
Do any other tire companies make DH type casings with faster rolling rubber? I've tried a bikepark Schwalbe- casing was good- rubber was very very bad. I think WTB does tough casing/fast rubber but I've never tried them.
Dave_Camp, I haven't used it, but Michelin makes a "Bike Park" version of the DH34, which could be just the ticket for you. The DH34 is the faster rolling of their two DH tires, and their DH casings are bombproof (1500 grams I think). As long as the bike park version doesn't use a different casing, seems like it could be perfect. You should try it and let us know.

Now that I’m running different tires, I’m having almost no flats even though I’m on 2.4 trail casings that are ~300 grams lighter per tire. The real giveaway was only needing 1-2psi more than I was on the Maxxis dh stuff (talking wt 2.5 or 2.4 here).
Higher tyre pressure is easier to cut through the tread as the case doesn't deform over the rock.
A cushcore would let you have the same side support as higher pressures, but allow the tyre to deform and not get pierced as easily.

I have a DH34 Bike Park on my rear wheel and it's not a proper DH casing. It's dual ply and wire bead, but the 27.5 is only 1200g. It's like the Double Down Dual Compound DHRII that Maxxis doesn't make. I'm expecting it to be a good summer tire and especially for the money -- $60 CAD!! -- but in toughness it's closer to a Wild Enduro than a full-fat DH34.
