The track looked awesome last year, hopefully they've added a couple more corners to make some separation/forgiveness to mistakes and the weather holds off until after finals.
I'm reading the rule book and 4.11.013 makes it seem like UCI points are awarded on the same scale as standing points at each race, I don't see anything excluding UCI points from 31st and back in semi-finals. I do see a BS thing for the final round in which "the standing and UCI points will be awarded to the riders according to their position in the final ONLY." I don't see why they would exclude UCI points from the final race qualifier and semi-final rounds; UCI kinda blowing it for the national jersey privateers' hopes and dreams. I have disliked the final round not awarding points normally since they implemented it a few years ago, but it's especially dumb this year with an one additional hard run thrown into the mix which is basically worth nothing for 50% more risk in the weekend. At least they aren't carrying over qualifier and semi-final points into the finals run point tally.
Weird how the rules allegedly don't state no points being earned for semi-final results from 31st place and back. And even stranger, how has this only now come up as opposed to earlier races? It's the middle of the season, surely an experienced and well-organized organization like the UCI can communicate stuff like this prior to the season starting?
Just listened to The Downtime pre-race show w/ Chris Kilmurray and he confirmed that the horrible bridge is gone, as is the stump gap; he said there are ~40 seconds of new track from there to the finish.
He also said for the pits that 18 of the big teams are basically on the road at the finished (which is sloped and cambered) and that everyone else is ~1.5km UP the road from the finish.
He also said that he expects the keyboard warriors to say the track is lame/too smooth
I would ask where in the rules it says you donโt get UCI points for not placing in a qualifying spot or completing a finals run but you could just as easily ask where it says you should get them. After reading Chapter XI of the UCI MTB rules the only place where scoring UCI points at world cups is explicitly mentioned is in 4.11.013 which is for the last round of the series exclusively in the finals runs. In the past, at least for what I remember, your points earned in a World Cup weekend were directly linked and equal to how many UCI points you earned.
This section is unchanged from years past as evident with the tallying of points to 60th in final runs and the glaring omission of semi-finals being included in the list. If this is what they are still basing UCI points off of then UCI points earned this season should be very different from World Cup points earned. Why are the UCI only now starting to cause issues with these points, I canโt believe Adam is the first guy to not have enough UCI points to race all season with how few guys are making it to finals.

The issue isnโt the track being smooth. Itโs that itโs horribly one lined, extremely fast, and they slow it down with poorly placed chicanes that ultimately just make the track sketchier as riders push for margins on a track with very little technicality. A lot Of fans and riders a like miss the old track which was like a steeper and less rocky vds in a lot of ways.
I would even say the old bike parky leogang track was more fun to watch than this one. Lots more to separate riders even if It wasnโt very โroughโ. This one is just a wait for the splits and congratulations to whoever felt like risking their life most that day.
Current topics:
- Semi points below 30th not counting towards UCI points
- Pit locations
- Is that horrible bridge before the finish still there?
Still love the old track more
Horrible finish bridge is gone! now there's a grassy turn and a shark-fin to the finish.
subscribing and that points rule is absolute BS
