New for 2016 from Jamis Bicycles is the Defcon. It’s available in three price points, awesomely named the Defcon 1, Defcon 2 and Defcon 3, ranging from $2,799 to $3,799 USD. The bike is a 160mm all-mountain/enduro rig geared for aggressive days on the trail. It has 66.5-degree head angle and 17.1-inch chain stays. The frame is AL-6061 aluminum that has been air-formed rather than hydro-formed. The air-forming process allows them to make more complicated tube shapes that are lighter than the hydro-forming alternative.

Suspension wise, you’re looking at a smoothly progressive curve and a pretty stiff rear end thanks to the one-piece bell crank rocker. Jamis has also chosen to use Enduro bearing in all pivot points for better durability. There’s some interesting spec decisions including 7-inch Shimano Saint disc brakes on the top model. If you’re like us, you know there is no better way to slow down than a true pair of downhill brakes, so it should appeal to some of the guys and girls who really get after it.
