One of the last machines we saw was the Impact Tester. In short, they drop it onto parts and see if they survive the impact. This is very applicable to wheels, stems, and bars.

In addition to the various lab tests, all Hayes Components products are put through the ringer by a dedicated crew of test riders and superstar athletes before they hit bike shop shelves (Mike Montgomery, Aaron Chase, and Eric Porter come to mind). The employees at Hayes Components also give things a good thrashing during lunch breaks at the nearby Ray’s Indoor MTB Park.
