First Look: 2016 Pivot Mach 429 Trail Carbon

Introducing the new Pivot Mach 429 Trail. It features a full carbon frame, 116mm rear travel, and 130mm up front.

Pivot prototyped several versions of the bike, tweaking angles and measurements along the way in search of the perfect formula.

While it's designed for a 120-130mm fork, the maximum is a 140mm travel fork for maximum shredability.

The combination of 29-inch wheels and slack, low geometry make for a ride that's surprisingly capable and fast as can be.

A slack 67.5-degree front end, 440mm chainstays, and 335mm bottom bracket height highlight the geometry specs.

Pivot's Mach 429 Trail builds are geared toward more a more aggressive and wider range of use than the Mach 429 SL. Plus there is room for two water bottles for those looking to ditch the pack.

The 2016 FOX Float DPS rear shock is specifically tuned for the Mach 429 Trail, and adds to the bike's lively, supple ride qualities.

Boost is upon us, and Pivot says they can really feel the difference on the trail, especially on the fork.

The new 12x148mm Boost rear spacing adds frame stiffness and control, while also allowing Pivot to shrink the stays a bit.

Want to run 27.5+? It's possible with some tire/rim combinations.

Boost 148 also helps make the plus size thing a possibility. You'll drop a bit of bottom bracket height with the wheel swap, should you decide to go that route.

Cold forged alloy linkages with Enduro Max cartridge bearings provide the bike's 116mm of dw-link suspension. Pivot says it feels like a 100mm bike when climbing and a 130mm bike when descending.

The key is the new mid-travel linkage design, taking inspiration from the clevis design of the Phoenix DH Carbon and Mach 6 Carbon with an entirely new upper linkage.

Dialed carbon processes lead to beautiful frames. This one uses a mix of external and internal cable routing, with an internal dropper post as an option. Rubberized leather downtube and swingarm protection keeps it safe.

At 5.9-pounds including shock for a size Medium, the 429 Trail brings a heavy hitting package at a great weight. The new removable e-type front derailleur mount can make for a clean 1X setup. ISCG05 mounts are available, too.

The Mach 429 Trail comes in S, M, L, and XL sizes for riders between 5'4" and 6'7". There are two colors, eight build kits, and a frame only option for custom builds.
