Specialized's all-new 2013 S-Works Enduro is spec'd with a fresh Roval Traverse SL carbon wheelset. Come to find out, they're also available as an aftermarket item. Curious about the details, we met up with Specialized MTB Product Manager Joe Buckley for the scoop.

With big guys like Curtis Keene and Brad Benedict doing the testing, it's safe to say that these wheels have been put through the wringer.

They're 22mm wide internally, 29mm externally, and tubeless ready to boot. Specialized says they'll accept up to a 2.5-inch tire, slotting them perfectly into the all-mountain range.

Specialized chose to work with DT Swiss for a number of reasons, including their 10-degree engagement freehub. To ensure compatibility, the rear hub will work with 135 or 142mm rear ends, and the front hub with quick-release, 15, and 20mm axles. High-end DT Supercomp spokes hold everything together.

Notice the spoke pattern? To save weight, there are just 27 spokes on the front wheel thanks to 2 to 1 lacing. The rear uses 32 spokes in the standard 3 cross pattern on both sides.

Made from the same carbon goodness as some of the S-Works frames, the 26" Traverse SL wheels weigh in at a claimed 1500-grams.
Slide Caption
Flickable, robust, and easily pedal-able? You can have all three for $1,650.

Those with a smaller budget should take note of the E5 alloy version. The Roval Traverse wheels are just 180-grams heavier than their carbon counterpart, use DT 350 hubs, the same spokes, and measure 28mm wide.

Description
There's a distinct lack of shreddable carbon all-mountain wheelsets, which is why when Specialized announced that they are making a new version of the light yet burly Roval Traverse wheels, we decided to take a closer look. Roval Traverse SL wheels are hand built, tubeless ready, and have been tested under some of the best enduro riders in the world.
