Gee and Dan Atherton decided to ride up to the top of the DH track because they thought the 45 minute shuttle would take too long. They were right, but not because the shuttle truck is missing second gear and jumps between 1st and 3rd a hundred times up the long hill up the freeway, but this morning it was because of the nation wide transport strike. All commercial drivers are on strike, enforced by their labour unions in South Africa this week. In fact, two drivers were threatened atgunpoint leaving for work (driving riders up the hill) so only four of the six trucks were operational. The late start meant the brothers had time to enjoy the view and chew on some sugar cane. WELCOME TO THE 2009 UCI WORLD CUP!
