What did Charlie do in split two?

I was wondering the same. Watched the free live feed and tried to keep up. Most times 1st split would be green for top dudes and then 2nd was red. Must've been off camera

And red by a lot.  They all lost close to 2  seconds in that section.  I will say I don't know that track that well but is there anything special up there I thought it was just more of the same as the top.

Confused on some start order rulez - why was Loris last man down?  If it is because he is above Loic in the UCI rankings, then why did Vali go down last, after Cami, who is leading the UCI rankings?

It goes by overall uci ranking, not World Cup ranking. So it's points you earn for world cups, plus other UCi races over the past year.  Vali and Loris are leading those rankings.

tiz-cycling.io has the junior dh race under the mountain bike category.  Not sure if the elite will get added.

Split two is the second half of the top section before the woods.  I believe it’s also the longest split in both time and distance.  Don’t think there is any real sneaky line choice possibilities.  Pure commitment in corners and carrying speed was likely the difference.  Also wind plays a factor in the first two splits.  Pretty sure one rider managed to beat Charlie at split two but crashed right after the split came up.  Can’t remember who (daprella maybe?)

that was the best coverage of world champs i have seen.  Usually it’s an awesome race that leaves a slightly bad taste in your mouth due to coverage.  Sure it wasn’t the best coverage ever but it was an improvement to recent memory.

Here's what a winning run in the junior men's category looks like these days...sheesh the kids are pinned!

Also very interested to hear if anyone knows why it’s off the schedule. It was a bit of a shock announcement after the podiums. Will be a big loss for the Nevis range and the whole town I’d imagine.

My guess would be that it’s too long for what eso wants to do. Would have to take out the whole top section to get it down the time they want

Assume the length of the track doesn't fit the to schedule.

Shorter tracks means that more of the race can be shown on the telecast.

It sounds like it's a combination of that and the organiser retiring.

Cathro mentioned in his round up video on PB they haven't confirmed it for next year, but they didn't for the 5 previous years either. Gave the impression it probably would, probably.

On Wyn TV he seemed none too pleased that the team wasn’t prepared for the rain. Said lack of planning leads to bad luck. Yikes.

What a year for Atherton. Three different riders on the top step with their product this year. For the brand I feel this accomplishment is much more impressive than one rider dominating.

Can we get Greg a couple of extra pumps in that rear tire, or maybe an insert? It seems this year he has had more flats when points were on the line than not.

Despite being filled in the track still offered a great stage to separate the field. A lot of riders with dirt on their jerseys but thankfully nothing devastating. Vali has so much pace that it seems to be pushing the other top contenders on the woman's side out of their comfort zone.

It will be interesting to see what the stripes do for Charlies race program. More confidence and more support could see him off to new levels, but also with that comes pressure and expectations. As with all the racers I wish him the best.

Despite some interesting changes this years DH season is turning in to quite the heater.

Atherton + Continental. Riders on Conti - don't forget Vali is on the programme - have broken the de facto maxxis/schwalbe dominance while Bernard/Wyn keep the hype train moving.

Love to see Hatton and Kolb consistently at the top of the timing sheets. I hope the success leads to more sales, more development, and ultimately sufficient budget to keep the programme moving next year again with them. Seems like a natural decision for the brand to continue reinforcing it's pedigree with the next generation, beyond the Atherton family, at the very top tier of tech/performance.

If you have a GCN+ account, World Champs page is blank if using a US server. But log out of your browser and & GCN+, then turn on VPN & set it to Germany.
Open browser, then GCN+ & log back in.

All the World Champs broadcasts appear in full.  Even the god awful wet sex "whack" sounds they were simulating landing off jumps & the Peloton breathing they piped in for the drone shots of Bruni & the rest of the top 10 up on in the open highlands.

RedBull would say "Geo-Blocked in your area" if using a US server.
GCN+ just makes the entire page "empty" & doesn't tell you you're Geo-blocked. Logging back in on VPN w/ the German server the site is fully loaded.  Kinda sneaky weird.

re: jump noises - they sure did sound fake, but i don't think there were resources in place to fake them on a few jumps only (have someone sitting around hitting the "sloosh" button every time a rider went off the jump for the live stream).

i'm guessing they had the couple jumps mic'd up w/ some kind of noise gate/filter thing that only opened when the volume was loud enough (keeps out other ambient sounds). so instead of a smooth in/out ramp-up of the tires on the lip, it was truncated and sounded faked. regardless, it was pretty hilarious.

there used to  be(maybe they still are) have mics on the slopestyle jumps at crankworx for the broadcast.

May have looked like GM was "on it" live, but that just compared to splits of others having come down.
Checking UCI Results & individual segment times on Roots and Rain, he was not going to pull time back. Looking at final splits, Split #2 was the winning split for the race.
The top 6 riders (excluding Daprela who exploded & Hart who is not a power pedaler) were ALL in the tops at the 2nd split.

GM was 16th at the end of Split 2 FOUR seconds back of Kolb & Hatton. 3 full seconds behind Vergier at Split 2.  If he put in a GM age 30 sprint, he might could pull back 3 seconds from that point on the top 5.
Best he could have done was 6th on the day. Team prep or no.  Greenland got 3rd on the same team just being up in the first 3 sectors.

What sucks is Sector 2 wasn't even SHOWN on the live feed.
