Never mind all the team rumours ,Mike Levy has left pink bike!

I was surprised too but it seems it's no fresh news -he's been reportedly missing since july.

One of Levy's last comments on the other site states: "My dude, it's all good. I didn't get fired, and there's no need for a PR about me taking some time off. It's as simple as that and the same as I've already commented under a previous podcast: I'm just taking some time off. Nothing is wrong, I just feel like I need a break from the internet and computers Smile "

If Jackson Goldstone didn't have his appendix issue this year he probably would have won the overall title, and people wouldn't be questioning SC's decision. The Kid absolutely wiped the floor with the competition at the last round, which at his age is pretty insane. If Pierron can't stay healthy in the coming years, I honestly don't see anyone giving him much of a challenge.

He also would have won if he hadn't flatted in either Andorra or Snowshoe, strongest rider this year by far imo.

Yeah that definitely looks like Unno’s pillar of doom to me.

I have said it before, been watching/following DH for well over 25 years.  I have no idea where his career will go with wins and championships, but he is by far the most gifted rider I have ever seen.  The kid is something special and just fun to watch ride a bike.  Nico was like a calculated surgeon, Sam Hill when he came on the scene was amazing and loose, then Gwin a professional in every sense of the word, Stevie had a great run going, Amaury too, Minnaar has always been top of the game.  Goldstone just makes it look easy.

“Dude that would’ve been so sick if I landed it!” —me, when I was a kid, completely missing the point.

This is why we still run em, right? J.Goldstone is so rad, I’m rooting for him. But the only sure thing is there’s no sure thing, and that’s why I watch.
I get the impression that he’s fully put together, very comfortable in his position, and that appendix shit can only serve to make him even stronger mentally—he lost like 20% of his body weight in a couple weeks, and still showed up to race? Gnarly!

But yeah, even if Goldstone had swept every timed run, started dating a pop star, and revealed his cure for cancer, my race team is paying to keep Greg Minnaar. If we didn’t have the cash to pay Minnaar, my race team will be selling pilfered hardtail and gravel bikes from the warehouse to fund his salary. We are keeping Greg Minnaar.

Even if every time you put a camera in front of him, he complained about the bike and team structure?

having also been following DH for as long or longer, i'd say he's the most gifted racer...  i still believe fairclough is the most gifted bike rider we've been fortunate enough to witness.

It's all splitting hairs but I recall reading that Goldstone was originally going to be a slopestyle rider before he took off in DH, he's super comfortable in the air.  Didn't he come 2nd in his first city race last year as well? Kid is just phenomenal on a bike but we have to see how his career develops but it feels like it can only get brighter.

Curious if he would do something like Rampage if the risks to his DH career weren't so high, his hardline run was amazing and he always seems to fly through the portions of the tracks that slow most riders down.

That's mostly a recency bias.
Every single winner or near winner over the years has had something truly unique that makes them pop.

Hill's turning speed & momentum generation
The Alien's precision & technical perfection
Lopes - highest RPM's on earth
Palmer - so much like Hill but damn near boring to see in person it was so effortless
Rennie - Power, technicality, precision & brute force. Could do BMX park moves on a DH
Kovarik - Maximum power & speed. An NFL Safety on 2 wheels
Gwin - Strength & an ability to turn on a dime
GM - the DH version of Jeremy McGrath
Peaty - Annihilation of bike and body.  He's the Eli Tomac of DH when seen in person at his pinnacle
Tomac - Power. Just gotta see him to believe the torque.

Can't crown Goldstone yet. One thing about the youth movement in DH is that the sport & equipment are eager to cripple you and set you back. He's not had a debilitating "overcome" moment yet like Amaury.   I'm eager to see how he survives his own pace in the next 2 seasons.  That will tell all.

I left out Bruni.
He's damn near boring, but only because he's the DH version of a ski racer.
Methodical. Tucked. Shaved visor. Yoga pants. Wind tunnel dynamics.
The Alien influence that wins races but at the same time bugs the shlt out of the moto purist in me.
He's so mute, steady & damn near inanimate on course, I don't like watching him.
But...that's the French aerodynamics & efficiencies...would he have lost a bunch of races if he was forced to wear a full size visor & not get $1000 ski jump skinsuits meant to "look" like DH kit???

Lots of love and expectations for Jackson Goldstone in this forum; and he truly deserves it too.

But let's not forget that Jordan Williams is also a very talented young rider (won his debut race in elites on a NEW bike), is on a damn good team, and nearly beat Goldstone to the jr overall last year.

Jackson is due a big payday next contract.  Would be very hard for a marketing department to justify a 7 figure + budget just in salary for four riders given the current economy and dh racing’s current reach.  And the way Greg speaks he’ll hang around till he goes out on top or isn’t competitive at all.  Which could be more than a year.

that said it’s hard not to feel like it’s the end of  an era.  When I got into this sport the syndicate was absolutely the coolest.  And boy did it influence me into owning a Hightower.  (X01 cc for 3g cause it was last year’s paint job). Now the bikes are bland, the videos aren’t something I wait to see, and the prices are out of my reach.  Now that doesn’t mean Jackson Laurie and Nina aren’t some of the nicest and most talented people out there.  But it’s nowhere near as entertaining as it once was.

I bet Goldstone already got a big payday with his current Syndicate contract, wouldn't be surprised at all if he was the highest paid on the team.

His parents have a reputation for been very "tough" negotiators, and his talent & social media presence have been huge since the kick bike days. The kid was getting 300k YouTube views when he was five.

I think Gwin mentioned it in a podcast, that Jackson is the first really manicured bike kid. As noted he was pushed into YouTube videos at a really young age. Was already pushed into spot light at crankworks.
It’s the ‘hockey kid’ mentality where the kids are pushed to be the next big thing.
Not taking anything from his talent, hard work or style. Just an observation over the years. I hope he makes bank he has the means to dominate for a few years.

I don’t doubt he’s doing well. But he will be deservedly doing much better next time round.

It feels like the end of an era, but also inevitable. The personalities that left (riders & mgmt) were all 1 of 1s, just so many unique people involved in the syndicate. But I love the current team, even without Greg. I think they need a little more creativity injected into the how the team rolls and the creative media the syndicate produces. That makes an enormous difference. They used to make masterpieces for bike releases lol https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xOUEIJf698I

Santa cruz stated (I think on a YouTube video) that they locked Jackson down in a long term contract at the end of 2023. After the year he had ;despite health issues, I'd be shocked if there weren't lots of $ in that contract.

Cannot agree. He's steezy as hell and defo can ride rogñugh and fast. Nobody else in the whole world can ride as perfect, and flowy as semenuk...

That said, id have sam in his prime every day before any one else. He just didnt care, and blew the rest off the hot seat like it was a given fact.
