For the first time in 2017 Loris Vergier of the Santa Cruz Syndicate has both a 29er V10 and a 27.5-inch-wheeled V10 at a World Cup DH race. We've seen that the course is a little twistier than seasons past with some new turns and berms, but it's interesting to be teased with the idea that Loris may run "smaller" wheels this round.

The Syndicate is either trolling us all (very likely) or Loris has made amends with Loic and they can stop fighting about 29ers now.

I guess we'll see what happens during training tomorrow.

Maybe if you cast your vote, he'll run what you think is best (yeah right!)

@sideshow Isn't it against the UCI rules? 2 different wheel sizes on one bike?

Pretty sure that's outside of UCI rules, you can run 2 rims same diameter with different widths but diameter must be the same.

He hasn't had what many would call a "spectacular" season on the 29er I say it's worth a shot at the "small" wheels

I agree with the sentiment, but i think he'll race the 29er, if that's the bike he has run all year and in training, switching doesn't make sense.

A bit harsh saying he has had a bad season, he has qualified in the top 5 a bunch of times only to get rained on in finals twice. On dry tracks the 29ers seem to be working sweet for the whole syndicate. They do seem to be a disaster in the wet.

I think this is basically proof that 29ers aren't quite "there yet" for dh. If you aren't atleast 6' then back tire/butt clearance is an issue. (Danny and Loris) Can't wait too see what next season brings.

unnamed sources so chalk it up to #fakenews (LOL), but i'm hearing that minnaar high-sided and the bike got flipped into a wooden post which did the snapping. marshy built up a new frame in 45mins and minnaar quali'd in 2nd, so take that for what it's worth. apparently a big energy drink company who makes legit daily updates has the footage, so we'll see!!! insane out there.

and that mtb-mag feature is like all of vital's ideas rolled into one. RAW + G-Out Project. neat.

Sorry but anytime someone equates what happens in a crash to bike strength would be like saying "tesla's suck" because something major broke when hitting a tree at 40mph.

These aren't bumper bikes. They are race machines. A crash this side of tipping over is not an indications of durability.

As a side note - Minnaar is a beast mentally. Whatever goes on between his ears is something we could all learn from, in every facet of life.

A snapped frame based upon that crash is not a surprise in the least. Between the g-out, highside, and his legs slingshotting that into the tree, what could be expected of it? Glad Greg is OK.

What is even more amazing. Doug put together a new frame in under an hour and Greg's first lap on it was qualifying where he was a C-nt hair off of Gwin in qualifying. MENTAL!

Now everybody and their cat will have an ”opinion” on carbon frames' and Santa Cruz' durability, totally ignoring the simple fact that no bike is designed to take side impacts from poles. It's as if you would act surprised if you hit you bike with an axe and it breaks or if you hit a concrete wall at full speed and the same happens. The shitstorm already started on Pinkbike and Facebook.

People should worry more about Greg being okay, as he is a damn legend and a very humble, down-to-earth guy, not a damn bike. Of course he covered up the broken frame, he's a professional. Wouldn't anybody else do the same?

And do we even mention Marshy, who built a spare bike in 45 minutes, so that Greg could grab that second spot in the qualies?
