so the les gets road gap has been claiming people today in practice. riders flying into the trees. marine cabirou is one of them and apparently fairly badly hurt. have also heard daprela re-smashed his face and was bleeding everywhere, but is "ok" according to reports from the crew on the ground (not sure if caused by road gap).

when asked about the gap being difficult, the reply was "entrance is very tech" - so it seems like getting off line isn't hard to do.

we wish everyone speedy recoveries and hope this piece of track can be sorted.

1st clip of rider sending into trees is from coach, alan milway

Looks like people are struggling to straighten the bike back out after the corner, and are drifting out in the air.

I don't envy anyone expected to go from a catch berm straight into a 15-foot drop.

Damn those are not very good looking crashes, the one from the gap over creek out to the lower grass section was not better in any way. I guess Bernard was right when he said that they are not very good with building take offs in Les Gets.

Reece called this in track walk saying riders were going to be landing "over" the berm, thought he was exaggerating ; (

This looks mega bad. Guessing the take off is super blind until your at the lip. Feel for those two that ended up in the trees.

That is some scary shit! Question, Les Gets builds the course, as they are building it do they have people actually riding the features to make sure of the safety of the racers? Seems like they would have found out that lead up to the road gap was probably not a good idea. You can't be building stuff that takes out racers no matter their level of skill. I hope Thibout and Marine are ok. They are so fuckin' good and to have them not taking part sucks.

Is Cabirou going to be OK? I've seen the clip in a couple different places and it is cut abruptly short.

Looks like the riders will have it sorted by race day, but those crashes were awful to watch... Cabirou just disappears into the trees

Is that confirmed Sad ?

Possibly related: on BK's vlog he says the road gap is shut a couple of times (19:20ish here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OklpWi3tfug). Not clear if that's due to crashes or something else

Edit: a few seconds later he says it's shut because of "poor Marine". Ugh.

Without changing the whole road gap section they could just dig a bit of the road to lenghten the landing. That way slower riders and people who had trouble in the previous section could still land without having to case it or pull too hard and crash. If the weather deteriorates and it becomes a mud fest, speeds will probably be slower too and the gap will be even harder to clear.

I'm all for hard features on a world cup dh track, but if it takes out that many elite riders, in my opinion there may be something that needs to be corrected.

Just the course preview is at light speed, but he is lucky he didn't get Flo Payet'd after running into the fencing at the end.

Looks like Marine panic braked into the road gap, seems like the issue isn't riders not being able to get enough speed, but instead not knowing what speed to take and what line to take off of the lip. BK for instance kept over shooting it. Hopefully the carnage is over but if conditions become too unpredictable might need to shut it down before half of the field gets wiped out.

Always a fine line between challenging and stupid. At the end of the day there’s no way to prevent severe injuries. But seems les get seems to not really have that balance right. A 15 foot drop is the last thing you want to be losing riders on at this level. Lost Rachel last year to.

Can’t be that hard to make it less janky.

There is a B-line, and if only the very top guys can handle it without jumping off the back of the berm or comming up short then so be it.
