Very nice. Is the dropped chainstay for chain clearance/noise? I'd be tempted to make the swingarm symmetrical and mount the brake on the chainstay, tucked between the stays...

Yes, the dropped chainstay helps to reduce chainslap.  The non drive chainstay is straight from the dropout to the pivot for simplicity.  The driveside usually requires some amount of lowering.  I originally wanted a chainstay mounted brake caliper, but some brands (Magura) are a little wider and would require the seatstay to buldge a bit.
