-Have to take off shoes to take on and off (not that you need to, as you can just live in them)
Bought these 4 seasons ago and are now using them on my daily commute through the woods to and from work. (20km one way, 7 of which is singletrack) I have ridden them in all kinds of conditions from -10C snow to +30C sun.
They breathe well, do not slip on me (I'm fairly average and use medium size) and protect me well enought on all the crashes I've had with them. I pull them on, put the lower elastic above my calf muscle and pull the upper well above my knee. When they're on, I don't realize I wear them and have actually forgotten to take them off on several occations. They are not the thickest pads around, and I would not use them in a DH or enduro race. But, for trail rides with a bit of pedalling they're a no-brainer to wear. I've previously tried pads from Fox, Ion, IXS, TLD, Sweet, Poc and Dainese and nothing has come close for comfort while pedalling as these for me. I use Ion K-Pact-Select for DH and IXS Carve Evo+ for Enduro, which both are great, but not nearly as comfy for long pedally rides. I shop around a lot for gear and have the possibility to try a lot of different kit on the market, so I feel I can always use gear I'm super happy with. If I'm nnot, I have the opportunity to change it.
They have recently (as of last fall) started to show some wear, where the seam on the pad on the side of the knee has started to come undone, but having ridden them a lot since then, they haven't come any more undone. But that's after 3 seasons of quite heavy use! I've crashed a fair bit with them, but never at full speed. They have never shifted in a fall and I have never got hurt while falling with them either, even with full weight onto rock or smacked into a tree.
In short: When I need new pedally-pads. These will be high on my list again. Half a point docked for not having a Norwegian distributor.
I picked these up as a minimalist, pedal-friendly, trail ride pad. The fabric is very light and breathable, they dry fast, and are durable. These are not something I'd wear to a park or DH track. Similar to the 100% Terratec, these feel like a sleeve w/ a slightly cupped pad that sits on your knee. The TLD Speed and Fox guards I've tried seem to sit flatter but wrap better around my knee cap. I had a hard time w/ the pad moving around on me and keeping them in the right place. I'm not sure if sizing down would help me.
Overall they are a nice set of pads. Simple, light, pedal-friendly. They just didn't work out for me as well as I had hoped.
I have used POC VPD 2.0, Troy Lee Designs Speed, 7idp Transition, 100% Terratec, and Fox Enduro Pro Guards.
