Maxxis Launches the Dissector: Brosnan's Signature Tire 24

Troy Brosnan wanted a “unicorn” of a tire – a center tread design that carried speed easily but with edge blocks worthy of world-class cornering speed. This is the result.

Maxxis and downhill star Troy Brosnan are adding to the thrill of this year’s Crankworx Whistler by launching the Dissector, his new signature tire, at the festival.

Integrating all the features that he believes are required in an ideal tire for dry, loose conditions, the Dissector is the product of a collaboration between Brosnan and Maxxis’ engineers. Using our Rekon, Minon DHF, and High Roller II tread patterns as a starting point, Troy and our engineering team began development on the Dissector during the 2018 World Cup season. The group worked to find the right balance of rolling speed, cornering traction, and braking traction for the Dissector.

The center knobs are all heavily ramped to minimize drag, but retain sharp, flat edges along their backs to provide strong braking traction. Small sipes give the knobs additional flexion, increasing their surface area during braking and aiding the transition to the edge blocks when cornering.

C-shaped edge blocks alternate between being closer and farther away from the center line of the tire. This pattern reduces vagueness when transferring from the center tread to the cornering tread. A distinct channel along either side of the center knobs – along with ample spacing between all lugs – helps to clear debris.

Initial Versions

  • 27.5 x 2.40" WT 3C MaxxTerra EXO (trail)
  • 29 x 2.40" WT 3C MaxxTerra EXO (trail)
  • 27.5 x 2.40" WT 3C MaxxGrip DH (downhill/park)
  • 29 x 2.40" WT 3C MaxxGrip DH (downhill/park)

Highlights

  • Ideal for dry, fast tracks and bike parks
  • All specs feature our Wide Trail (best paired with 30-35mm wide rims) tubeless-ready casings
  • Pricing: $75 USD for EXO, $90 USD for DH

For downhill racing or bike park riding, we recommend the Dissector as a rear tire, paired with a larger-knobbed front tire such as the Minion DHF or Assegai. For trails, the Dissector is more versatile, working equally well in the front, rear or as a pair.

Available in select markets beginning August 9, 2019. Visit www.maxxis.com for more details.
