Absolute hats off for the attempt! Building up my own insanely close JMC Replica has made me into a total pedant, don't hate me for the suggestions.

If it were me i'd have to have:

Polished crowns

Polished Headset / spacers

That exact stem but polished

Polished seat post

Grey Seat Preferably Ti rails and Specialized

XTR Drivetrain and I'd polish back the crank arms

I'd also ditch those decals on the wheels and get "Wheel Smith" on there somehow, maybe in the old mavic Bluegreen and yellow  colours and Or maybe "Mavic 121 Ceramic SUP" on there somehow

But it's still bloody lovely, those brakes are bang on too!

Hi Daniel, really good to hear your thoughts. Hope the replica is going well! Glad to have input from someone who understands the core reasoning with this project. Thanks very much for commenting, as you can imagine I thought very hard about this bike, I'll try to explain my logic.

I did of course consider the extent I wanted to take the JMC cues, and though this is a tribute to him, and his bike, I'm also a big fan of the Demo c2018 itself, and the intention was to celebrate them both, and find the right balance. It's for that reason I kept elements of the original paintjob at the rear of the frame, giving some equilibrium to the black forks up front too.

the silver crankset from the original are reflected in the brushed alu discs. any more and I felt it would be overkill. Since I couldn't change the stantion colour, I felt polished crowns also wouldn't work, and therefore I was comfortable to leave the black theme throughout.

I also didn't want to misslead by changing any names of components, hence the decals on the forks still say "Boxxer", only in the style of the judy FSX, and the same would apply to the rims.

The tires were perhaps the most crucial element. Getting geniune skinwalls where you can see the carcass on modern DH tires is like a quest for the grail among all the painted tan-walls that look lame to me. Finding those, and the right donor-bike were the kick-start I needed, and I'm pretty chuffed with the result. Rides amazing too
