Specialized's 33.2 Pound S-Works Demo 8 Carbon Downhill Bike

How light? You read that right. This custom 2015 S-Works Demo Carbon build weighs just 33.22-pounds (15.07-kg) and is race ready.

Often times super light downhill bikes are built with a number of compromises in order to shave grams, but this setup has very few. Surprisingly Specialized didn't have to modify the stock build kit too much to achieve the total build weight. It's based around a 7.6-pound S-Works FACT 11m full carbon Demo frame.

The cockpit is made up of Specialized's own S-Works DH carbon handlebars, P.Series direct mount stem, foam grips, and SRAM Guide RS brake levers.

Dual 200mm rotors and Avid Code calipers ensure stopping won't be an issue. They've also used six steel rotor bolts on each, as any proper build should.

The frame itself features a radical asymmetric design, which you can learn more about here. It's paired with an Öhlins TTX22M rear shock with a titanium coil spring.

KCNC's Ti Pro Lite seatpost with a Scandium T7 tube was used alongside Specialized's Body Geometry Toupé Pro saddle with oversized FACT carbon rails.

Save the custom Specialized upper chainguide, the drivetrain is entirely SRAM, including X0 DH carbon cranks, BB30 bottom bracket, PC 1130 chain, 7-speed X01 DH cassette, and short cage X01 DH derailleur.

While no bash guard may seem crazy, it'd be just fine on all but the rockiest DH courses. The compact rear cassette allows for a smaller chainring to be used which improves clearance. Chain retention is ensured by SRAM's alternating thick/thin X-Sync tooth profile and the upper guide.

Specialized's long awaited Boomslang pedals with a slim 10mm profile were included in the build weight.

While not advertised as being DH ready, the 650b Roval Traverse SL Fattie Carbon wheels offer a very generous 30mm internal width at 1,530 grams per set. They've also proven to be very durable in our own tests.

Fast rolling Specialized Slaughter DH tires were used front and back. They have a 60TPI casing, dual compound tread, and wire bead.

Continuing with the coil-sprung theme, the bike has a RockShox BoXXer Team fork instead of the air-sprung World Cup. This is another area where a little more weight could have been saved, but the performance of a coil was desired.
