It says a lot about a trail when a ripping rider like Noah is landing flat, getting stuffed on takeoffs, and just generally looking chunky on the bike.

I and others appreciate the effort the trailbuilders put into new trails around the Grand Valley, but it's incredibly disappointing to non-beginner riders when they keep turning out like this.

I rode 20 miles of "intermediate" trail like this last weekend in Southern CO. The first few miles were fun, but after a while I started to feel kinda silly twisting and turning every 5 seconds when there was 20 miles of open range in every direction. Give me a rock garden or some roots or ledges or something!

Phil's World?

For the most part I think the layout of MoJoe's is pretty flowing and natural. There are a few hits (like @ 1:37) that don't work very well, but the rest of it doesn't seem contrived. It's hard to put rock gardens in up there because that area lacks rocks - and we wanted the trail to have the same "feel" as the other trails in that system.

The other two major trail systems in the area, Lunch Loops and Kokopelli, have no shortage of rocks, ledges, and other challenging features.

I'm talking about Pueblo Reservoir. It was nearby, and we were looking for some light techy riding. An intermediate rating seemed fair. Got stuck doing close to 20 miles of boring xc grind.

Have you rode the Lunch Loops? Very different terrain than what you rode and what's represented in this video. Southern CO has a great variety of terrain to choose from.

If you like rocks and ledges it doesn't get much better than LL. That's the beauty of the Fruita/Grand Junction area: a guy can rail the buff, or get rowdy on the rocks. Oh, and the Pueblo res has rocks and ledges, but they are all in the side canyon trails on the South Shore. Next time stay on the South side and ride Hooters Canyon, Steep Tech, Pin Ball, rattle snake, dead dog.....Your impression of that area will change dramatically. The North side of the Res is void of rocks or any features as you know well. Enjoy!

Wow, thanks for the trail beta! We actually rode on the South side, but we got suckered into the Voodoo Loop with it's intermediate rating. I guess we should have looked for more advanced stuff. Thanks again!

I only rode MoJoe's once, but that one experience was pretty negative. It may be a killer trail for the beginner rider getting rad for the first time, but for those who boost jumps even a little bit, it's a pretty horrible trail. I recall sailing past more than one tranny into flatness and two lips pointing somewhere other than the landing. The last jump, which is at the crest of a hill, makes a quick right that your eyes lock onto as you orbit past into the weeds. I like most of the trails on 21 Road because my wife and I can both ride and be happy, but MoJoe's is not on my must-hit list.
