Lovely bike!

I have over the last few months tried a few front / rear tyre combos for a similar style of bike. Tyre combos are like bikes, except the equation is (n+2) to account for two tyres... The ones you tried are worth a go IMO. I have tried the HD (very good) ardent (OK at 2.25 for rear a bit slippery out front) rapid rob( for a race day rear only) and the high roller 2 both front and back (piles of all round grip but slow). I am currently on a slaughter rear and high roller 2 front, which I like for moderate/ medium gnar. The lack of absolute braking from the very low profile slaughter has its limits on the very steepest runs (for me) but is very fast on most trails. I like the fact that the side knobs and cross sectional shape are very similar. I am pretty sold on the HR2 for the front but will continue to try others, such as the WTB trail boss out back.

Have fun. That bike will be a beast on those wo nderful NE Victoria trails!

I had low expectations of the Purgatory 2.3 on the 741's, especially on the rear, but so far they've been working well.

I am planning on testing three pairs/flavors of tires:
- a pair for lighter gnar riding (Purgatory or similar combo),
- a pair for medium gnar (Rock Razor rear, 2015 Nobby Nic or Hans Dampf front)
- a pair for heavy gnar (Maxxis Minion pair)

I think chances are I'll settle for something in the middle as that's the most versatile and covers the majority of my riding too, but I'm interested to compare a few combos.
