first and only attempt, sometimes luck is in your favor.

it is also shot with a fisheye which helps. Fisheye lenses keep the sun much smaller in the sky/shot and I feel they give the best results when shooting into the sun like this.

Yeah, when I asked how many attempts, I didn't mean the technical photography aspect of how to get a sunstar, I meant to get it placed where it is. Sweet shot!

your question was pretty vague, and it sounded like you were asking how I got the sunstar... sorry if you were offended by the answer.

Thanks for clarifying.

The photo shot just prior to this one (in the album) was the shot I was going for, but the combination of the sun coming through the frame and the snow off the tire made this one a pleasant surprise.

Offended? I was worried I had offended YOU by implying that you needed luck to get a sunstar! goes to show the dangers of the written word. Morale of the story: this is a kick ass photo. (and I loved your full slide show as well!)
