I cannot tell from the pictures if these wheelset has the new lock ring or not, but For 2011 Easton updated their preload lock ring nut. Last year you had to turn clockwise to add preload (RH), but this year it's reversed (LH). the only difference being it won't come loose as easily as the RH style lock-ring used to - maybe that's the problem you were running into Eddie?

thanks for the review eddie! i have the DH version (same hubs as yours i think) on my DH bike and agree, the 20mm cap is a PIA when changing the wheel. these hubs were definitely better at first glance. my DH rims and spokes have been good for me so far. i've told our reviewer to look at your input above and see how the new version compares. thanks g!

Here's my real world 2 year review on these wheels. I'm glad to see the front hub is 20mm only since my older version is a PIA about mounting the front wheel onto the fork because the 20mmspacer caps always fall off thus requiring several attempts to succesfully mount the wheel. I'm skeptical about the lighter weight rim and I've put a fair amount of dings in mine while running a 2.4 Maxxis Advantage up front and a 2.35 Maxxis Minion DHR or DHF in the rear, Although, it's great to see the rims are UST compatible now. Now for the bad news, the rear hub was nice at first but didn't take long to develop play and needed to be adjusted much more than I cared for to keep it tight and free of slop. More bad news, the spokes are non standard, thus requiring a special order from Easton since no local bike shops keep them in stock. I've had several spokes break at the hub (non-drive side and drive side) and have missed out on some riding due to waiting for spokes- I made sure to order extra's the first time this happened.
Performance wise, these wheels accelerate very well and are easier to climb with due to less rotational weight. However, I've since put the rear wheel on the back-up shelf due to the hub slop issue and breaking spokes after one year of use, and am currently running a Sun Ringle Flea/Singletrack setup which has been maintenance free.
