Injuries are inevitable at an event like this and an extensive first aid team is vital. Luckily for the DME racers many of the local emergency doctors are also mountain bikers. Having your local ED consultant waiting at the top of the trail to deal with any mishaps and the local rescue helicopter only a phone call away is a big reassurance to racers riding in trying conditions.
